    Can you ID this shotgun?

Sorry it's not a great pic but it's what I have. My elderly neighbor has had this for some time. He got it from a buddy of his years ago to pay off a debt. It's a 12 gauge lever action. Any idea what it is or what it might be worth. Again, this pic is all the data I really have on it.

    Thanks,

Well it looks like a Winchester 1887 pattern 12ga. to me, but the pattern has been remade by a lot of different companies over the years. I believe Chiappa is still making them IIRC. No idea on the value without knowing who the manufacturer is.

Looks like a Winchester 1887 or 1901, or clone. I don't know much about them, but thats what it looks like to me.

He did tell me that he got it over 20 years ago. So that most likely excludes most modern replicas.

        Thanks for the input though!

Funny, I thought T2 when I saw the pick as well

Yes, it definitely looks like an old Winchester lever action shotgun but the interesting thing that I noticed is the gold plated, colored or gilded trigger.
(the swept-back hook at the bottom of the trigger I have seen, it's just the color is something I haven't seen before.)

I'm no expert but I don't think that's standard or normal so it's possible he has something a little bit special.
or maybe someone just replaced /plated the trigger along the way with something a little nicer.

the absolutely most important thing to remember here is ...

              "I'll take it!"
              (I was in first.)

              :-)

                ^^^

Maybe a special edition of some kind?

^^ going by just that partial photo of the shotgun, there's no way of knowing.

I guess you could try and search for it on the internet but I bet someone who knows their Winchesters will be in here shortly.

20 years ago is STILL in the modern replica time frame.

Absent the makers name no one will be able to give you any more info then they already have.

If it was a major mfg. it be stamped on the barrel or receiver, have you looked?

Like sealocan said, one pic doesn't tell much.
If it's in 12ga, it's an 1887, the 1901 was smokeless 10ga only. From what I see in the pic, it's an 1887 that's been refinished, probably worked over for CAS matches. How long is the barrel?
Gold plated trigger, screw holes dished from polishing, wood not proud to metal, all tells me original Winchester 1887, that has been re-finished.
The receivers were color case, and the left side will have the WRA logo on it.
The serial number is located on the bottom front of the receiver, get it for me and I can tell you when it was made.

It has to be a reproduction with the gold trigger.
