My Ruger Red Label

Even though many shotgunners discount the now discontinued Ruger Red Label shotguns, I have come to appreciate mine quite a bit over the past decade or so. This gun has over 15k rounds through it, it is still tight, accurate and a pleasure to shoot. It was given to me as a gift by my in-laws. A few months later, my mother-in-law and I conspired to buy the exact same model (Red Label Sporting Clays with the 30" barrels) for my father-in-laws birthday so we both have one. It has been a great gun, 100% reliable and a pleasure to shoot. Sorry to see that Ruger couldn't make a go of the shotgun business.

They were a great deal when being sold new. I wouldn't mind having one myself. Nice O/U!

They always did seem like a nice gun. Remind me, why were they discontinued? Was it manufacturing quality issues, or simply manufacturing cost issues?

It was reintroduced two years ago in 12 gauge.

I sold mine, but it is a really nice shotgun. Ruger is just a great gun. Made in America. Nuff said.

Mine is from the original run, V1. Ruger discontinued them quite a few years ago. Then two years ago, they reintroduced the Red Label, V2, supposedly with lower manufacturing costs and they did get good reviews. They must not have sold many though because they discontinued them again late last year. From what I heard, it was mostly about the economics of not selling enough, pretty tough to go head to head with Browning and Beretta.
