    Browning Superposed salt stockO/U

There is a Browning Superposed at LGS. $550. But man, there is some deep pitting in a few places. Couple of deep pits where the fore-end meets the barrel... Bores are clean though.

    How pitted is too pitted?

It is at a shop in Cameron Park.

If they let you, take stock and barrel/forend off. Just checking for pitting around the edges will show issues, but may not reveal the real rusty problem underneath.

In most instances, saltwood equals badwood - in my opinion.

If bad - even $550 is overpriced - considered a very good field grade superposed would run between $850-$1250. Only way I would pick up a saltwood gun is if I buying it to beat the piss out of it and got it near free OR, it was some fancy grade and I was planning to restore... My 2 cent...

Info about Browning salt wood warranty service.

The good: Browning will repair and restore a salt wood gun back to original factory condition at no cost.

The bad: (1)There must be a Browning warranty registration card under the original buyers name . (2) You must be the original buyer or convince them that the gun belongs to a family member and you are representing them.

I bought($700) a very nice salt wood Superposed around 1990+- that had the original warranty card and case under the original owners name. Prior to buying the gun, I contacted Browning warranty CS and explained that the gun was my grandfathers and he was planning on handing it down to me. Browning said "send it in" under his name with the warranty card and they completely refurbished all of the metal in the receiver, replaced internal parts, re-blued the receiver and the barrels and replaced all of the wood...for the cost of shipping. I got it back about 6 months later and I think the only unrestored original parts I could see were the trigger and butt plate. The gun was gorgeous.
