Mossberg 930 jerry miculek pro series, anyone shot one? I was thinking about a Kel Tec KSG for the capacity don't really care about the compact factor, but when I saw this gun (JM pro 930) I kinda fell in love. So far everything I've seen and heard makes me want to get it (once I can afford it or sell one of my own lol). I mean 9+1 capacity and the 24 inch barrel make it great all around shotgun I think.

I have the 930 combo, the fit and finish is a little better than the JK pro/SPX/BlackWater series. The JM is nice for all the goodies you good. But when you break the guns down the QC is much better on the hunter series of shotguns where the tactical models focus more on just that. Being tactical and after market add ons.
My buddy has a JM and it's nice. But if you do some digging you will see 95% of the issues refer to the tactical series and JM pro 930's.
I have some where around 1,500 to 2,000 of bird/game load, buck, slug, you name it through my combo I self modded and literally have no hick ups. I even did a celebratory may dumb at the 1,000th round. I think I cleaned it all of 4 times during the 1,000 round run (was done over months so it wasn't a crazy torture test but still).
I heavily suggest you look at the combo sets, I love the 930 series but the JM pro and tactical guns seem to have accessories more in mind than making a basic solid foundational firearm to work off of.
That said a friend has a black water and JM which have shot ok. He doesn't shoot as often as me, but his black water has some ejecting issues and the JM has been fine but has only seen about 200 rounds if that. So not much of a statement piece to base off of. -
What about the KSG? Original reviews I've seen all pointed towards it being a P.O.S. at best but now I see more and more reviews that the new ones work great. I know comparing a pump to a semi is kinda stupid but my next shotgun in mind is of these two (KSG or JM pro series), also I did try the 930 SPX and it had issues JM pro is the first out of 930 models that got me excited.Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.Comment

If you think you might try competition, then the JM pro is obviously the way to go, between your choices. I would think the gas system and action in the pro is the same as in any 930, including the combo, so I don't see why it would function any differently. I.e., you are just as likely to have problems with the JM as with any 930, where it matters most.
For many JM owners (including me), there is a learning curve to make this run smoothly, and sometimes some work on the gun. Things that made a difference for me include the way you put back the mag tube together (spring can get caught where the mag extension connects-I've heard multiple owners complain their gun only loads 5- this is why)) and polishing the chamber. I never had a problem when I am shooting from a solid position, on a static range (even with 1150 fps birds), but occasional failures occur when running and gunning, probably because of "soft-shouldering". Doesnt help that Im a little guy.
More and more gunmakers are producing a competition ready shotgun with > 6 rd capacities. If you have the dineros, you should consider a Benelli or VersaMax.Comment

I have a 930 JM 24" that I bought for 3-gun for $600. I haven't done anything to it and it has run without any issues for me in and out of matches. Bird, buck and slug have all had no issues. I used the included shims to adjust the angle of the stock and that was it.
The loading port is shorter that the Benelli, so if you were to quad load, it might be harder. I load 2 and have no issues.Comment

My Brother & I both own JM Pro 24's. He's had his for about a year and has close to 1500 rounds thru it with only a couple of minor, easily fixed issues. Have had mine for about 3 months and with a little over 500 rnds its been flawless. He ran about 100 rounds of Hi-brass slugs/buckshot at first to break his in. I just stripped mine down, cleaned it well, and started busting clays.
We shoot a lot of clays, running cheap Wally World Win/Fed bulk packs and Herters stuff from Cabela's, all low-brass, and neither of us have had any cycling problems at all. Hi-brass slugs/buckshot are no issue either, other than kicking a lot harder, but the addition of a Limbsaver #10201 recoil pad helps there. Bro has run his 500 rounds without cleaning and still functioned 100%. Cleaning at shorter intervals of around 300 rounds makes cleaning a bit easier though.
It's pretty nice knowing if a situation were to arise, that we can have 10 rounds (11 Ghost loading) of 12 gauge hurt to let loose on the unwise.
BTW - I got mine from Big 5 when they were doing 20% off one firearm. $602 = $682 OTD with tax etc.Last edited by WartHog; 03-31-2015, 7:21 PM.Originally posted by Sierra57Civil War 2.0 - If it comes to pass, the America-hating Leftists will have brought it upon themselves. This is similar to my experience. No function issues, but I do note that the loading gate occasionally bites my thumb nail when loading quickly.
Overall, I like the gun.My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.Comment

I know someone who won one at a raffle. It shoots very well, however, he has had several light primer strikes with it. Not a huge issue shooting clay targets, huge issue as a defense gun. I would not stake my life on it..."A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"Comment

I posted a while back about my JM pro.
I had the extractor and spring crap out of the gun.
I started having FTF and after clearing a few, saw the parts on the ground.
$40 in shipping and 2 months and it was returned and works well.
The only pain to the JM PRO is the damn tube.
So you need to take off the tube clamp each time you clean it
You need to unscrew the mag tube and the spring wants to go everywhere. With the 590, you can unscrew the end of the mag tube and then release the spring.
The JM PRO the spring sandwich is your only option.
You have to clean the carbon off of the piston and assembly every 200-400 rounds.
I found that the yellow lead wipe clothes you use on revolvers is the best product to clean the gas system.
The gun is good for 3 gun. It is short for hunting and way too long for HD.
And once you take a few tacticsl shotgun classes and learn to feed the gun, having a 3 round tube or a 9 round tube is not that different.
Seriously, if you ran a stock mossberg 500 4+1 dry in your home and your though was that I need a bigger magazine, you might want to revisit your training and tactics.Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Unfortunately, Mossberg has had some QC issues with the 930JM so I hope yours runs well. Keep the piston clean! And get that Marine spacer so you don't have issues on humid days.
If you haven't bought one yet, I'd strongly urge you to take a look at the Stoeger M3K. It's a much more reliable gun.Comment

Thank you for the info, I liked jm930 mostly for two things 24 inch barrel and 10 shot capacity. Stoeger does have a 24 inch barrel but lacks the capacity and I haven't seen any extention tubes for it. Anyone makes an aftermarket one?Unfortunately, Mossberg has had some QC issues with the 930JM so I hope yours runs well. Keep the piston clean! No experience with the Kel Tec but I can say the JM pro is an awesome gun! Gone one a year+ ago and have shot the hell out of it so far. I did notice that I had one issue with it failing to fire after 700-900 rounds of mixed cheap ammo and found that cleaning the piston made a world of difference. Keep that thing clean every 300-500 rounds and you should be fine. I neglected it because I was having such a fun time that I forgot it needed a good cleaning.Comment
