OU vs Semi-Auto shotguns

If I could pick just one......semi-auto.
1) 3 rounds for hunting, even more if not.
2) Less recoil
3) One barrel, so no convergence. It shoots to the same place every time.
4) Less expensive. Much easier to get a quality semi for 1/4 the price of the quality O/U.
But you don't get the coolness factor of hanging your open O/U over your shoulder at the range while waiting your turn.

When I first started hunting I used my father in law's o/u. It was nice - too nice to take hunting.
I have a Beretta Xcel for sale - pm me if you are interested.Comment

Most of the good skeet and sporting clays shooters use a O/U for a good reason. Balance, swing through, choke versatility.
And if you reload the advantage of not chasing hulls down.
Now the older shooters I shoot with DO use autoloaders for the softer recoil, though you can load light olds for a O/U.
I love my Perazzi(s) for Skeet but wouldn't use them for hunting, I buy commercial ammo for that and use a Weatherby semi that is light and super reliable.
For sorting clays I use a Grade V Citori.
Fir is more important then type of shotgun. Try before you buy.Last edited by cudakidd; 04-01-2015, 6:39 PM.TURNING and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
