    Buy a Beretta A300. It's the best value, softest shooting gun on the market right now.

      O/U for balance and feel (SxS also, but good ones cost $$$$).

      And a pump gun for the challenge of it

        1) 3 rounds for hunting, even more if not.

        3) One barrel, so no convergence. It shoots to the same place every time.
        4) Less expensive. Much easier to get a quality semi for 1/4 the price of the quality O/U.

        But you don't get the coolness factor of hanging your open O/U over your shoulder at the range while waiting your turn.

        This ^

        When I first started hunting I used my father in law's o/u. It was nice - too nice to take hunting.

        I have a Beretta Xcel for sale - pm me if you are interested.

              I appreciate the responses. So far, my shotgun list to get is:

              Benelli M4 for self defense

              After this thread, most likely gonna go with a OU. Want a Citori. Still can use the 870 for hunting.

                Most of the good skeet and sporting clays shooters use a O/U for a good reason. Balance, swing through, choke versatility.

                And if you reload the advantage of not chasing hulls down.

                Now the older shooters I shoot with DO use autoloaders for the softer recoil, though you can load light olds for a O/U.

                I love my Perazzi(s) for Skeet but wouldn't use them for hunting, I buy commercial ammo for that and use a Weatherby semi that is light and super reliable.

                For sorting clays I use a Grade V Citori.

                Fir is more important then type of shotgun. Try before you buy.

                TURNING and turning in the widening gyre
                The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
                Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
                Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
                The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
                The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
                The best lack all conviction, while the worst
                Are full of passionate intensity.
