    Question about Remington 870, chambered 2 3/4"...

I've always been curious about something:

My 870 is a wingmaster that is chambered to 2 3/4" shells only. Now, anyone will tell you that you're not supposed to shoot 3" shells from that shotgun, even if you switch out the barrel. Seriously though, are the 3" Remington 870s so different that you could not buy a 3" barrel and shoot 3" magnum shells from it?

i have shot 3" out of mine. it is a 2.3/4" receiver with a 3" barrel. i wouldnt recommend doing it all the time, but once in a while cant hurt.

      1) The barrel is chambered for a 2 3/4" cartridge. The 3" is a different cartridge. Excessive pressures develop when you use the 3" cartridge in the 2 3/4" barrel. Always use the correct ammunition as designated by the manufacturer.

      2) Now the barrel is correct but the receiver is incorrect. The ejector assembly will need to be replaced or modified for the 3" cartridge. The ejection may or may not need to be modified.

      3) Yes - see #2
