Need HD ammo? Look no further

If this is old news then I apologize but just shot Federal low recoil LE 00 buck with flight control wad. Holy chit. 3 inch group and the wad stayed with the shot all the way to the target. Out of a 20 in barrel Moss berg 590a1. Tried posting a picture but Tapatalk sucks at that. Will try when I get to a desktop.

That's pretty much all I buy, sometimes I buy the "Tactical" buck (I think it's the LE132) and there is a noticeable difference in recoil.

I like those too and always keep them on standby for HD. Be sure to have a few full powered slugs with high penetration capability on hand though, those Federal flitecontrol 00 buckshots are nice but they're also low recoil, which means they don't shoot through cover very well.

I keep boxes of Freedom Munition Xtreme copper plated slugs with him for this, they go on sale from time to time, grab some if you see them on sale.

Anyone else feel like Federal LE132-00 is a bit TOO tight? Someone recently posted up a thread with patterning results out of an 18" cylinder bore. At 15 yards the grouping was the size of a fist and at 25 it didn't appear to be any bigger than a handspan.

I agree, I don't look for the tightest pattern I can get. I have several shotguns, one of them is dedicated for HD. The longest shot I could possibly take in my house is 21 yards, and based on the layout of my house this shot is unlikely. With my 18.5" barrel, 3" 00 buck Winchester's, my pattern at 25 yards is still only 16-18 inches. My situation is different than most I suppose. It's just my wife and I, she carries a G19, and to hit any of our neighbors' houses I would have to arc my shotgun and lob the buckshot in like a mortar. If a tight group suits your purpose and situation, then it's all good! Not for me though. Perhaps my wife could handle my 870 with the Federal low recoil loads, I might try some in the mean time.
              I fly everywhere backwards.

As long as accurate I prefer tighter. Less pellets going unexpected places

That is indeed the ultimate (as of now) load for HD use. That being said I simply buy any 00 Buck load I find at a good price. At the distance/location I would ever have to use it the slightly larger spread isn't going to be a concern

Old news but good news. Target Sport USA has good discounts from time to time on the whole collection (8 pellet, 9 pellet, reg, low recoil).

If it matters to anyone, I have found that the 9 pellet shells are just slightly longer than the 8 pellet. This affects capacity on my M4 but doesn't bother my 870. YMMV

And personally I do not think they are too tight. I like um just fine.
