simple light + laser setup for benelli m4

A weapon light like the surefire x400 ultra (with green laser) is what I *think* I would like for my benelli m4.

I'm open to comments if that's a bad idea for some reason.

Assuming it's reasonable, what is a good, simple way to attach this ? The x400 is not a simple tube flashlight that I can put into a light mount - it has a whole body to it with rail adaptor, etc. - which is great, but ...

I don't want to add some big huge rail system to the shotgun- I don't want the weight and I want to be able to quickly strip and repair the weapon, etc., without a secondary chassis getting in the way.

What's a good way to mount something like the x400 ultra that doesn't over complicate the shotgun ?

(I am looking at things like this - http://www.ultimak.com/products/GG-1131.jpg .... but mounting this back on the top rail would then make a big shadow from the gun itself in the opposite direction ....)

I think the x400 is a good option. I think you're over complicating things looking for a green laser. I think a mount like this would do the job

First, thank you for that link - that is exactly what I am looking for and I have been happy with GG&G products in the past.

Second, would you further explain your comment about the green laser ? I was under the impression that green was easier to acquire than red and was thus superior ...

No problem.

As far as the laser- I just don't feel it's necessary for a shotgun. You're not going to find a green laser paired with a light as good as the x300/400 imo. I think it would be better to spend money on some type of red dot optic and just get the x300 light.

Green lasers are easier to see if thats your thing- but the good ones are pricey. I experimented and bought a "beamshot" laser for my AR. I bought it to use in conjunction with a gas mask - when I'm unable to get a good cheek weld.
I was disappointed because I couldn't even see the damn thing during the day.

I don't know what your goals are with your set-up - but again, I think the laser (especially going out and getting something in addition to a good light) is overkill.

Interesting. Did not know about that. I think a laser is overkill for a shotgun but that thing seems pretty cool.

You may want to stay away from any light mount, rail, sling mount, or what have you that is sandwiched in between a magazine extension and the magazine. Is that how that CC&G rail is mounted? See this article. It is specifically about a Streamlight rail marketed for the 870 that is similar to the CC&G. If the CC&G is made of thicker steel, and I have been told that it is, the gap would be even wider than the Streamlight product.

This may not a problem IF the Benelli is designed in one of several ways, but I would have to see how it is done to know if its design closes the gap. It looks like it is very different than an 870 and that the oem sling mount is removable. It goes over the tube and does not create a gap. If so, the CC&G may be fine.

Edit: The CC&G light mount doesn't create the groove problem on the M4 that CC&G's similar mount does on an 870.

I use the BLAM M4 mount. I actually bought 2 of them to try out. They mount in the 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock position, and the other model of it mounts at the 6 o'clock position. I love the way they work, simple, clean and easy to install just behind the retainer ring and doesn't interfere with the operation of the weapon at all.

I actually have the extra one I never used. $45 shipped
