Mossberg 930 JM pro barrel Interchangeability

    Hi All,

Do you know if you can interchange 930 hunting barrels
With the competition barrel on a 930 JM pro?
I'd like to have one auto loader for both but I'm having a heck of a time confirming if the barrels are a simple swap.
    Thanks!

Yes. done it. Ordered 28" barrel from Mossberg customer services by phone. Also need mag spring for standard 5 shot tube, dowel to limit the mag tube to 2 rounds, and magazine cap (since you will be removing the extended mag).

      And it's that easy?
No cycling issues with ether barrel?

Whether the barrel is 22", 24", or 28", it makes no difference to the 930/JM Pro Gas System.

So is there any reason not to go this route for the 930 JM
Pro as a competition and duck hunting combo?
Seems like an inexpensive option for those

I bought my JM Pro 24 to have fun shooting clays and to have the ability to quickly loose 10 rounds (11 Ghost Loading) of 12ga slug/buckshot vengeance upon the unrighteous if ever need be. I can bust clays out to 40 yards or so if I'm doing my part aiming/leading. I asked on a knowledgeable JM Pro forum if putting a 28" 930 barrel on my JM would increase my hit ratio on clays and was told for the $200 cost of the barrel that it wouldn't really be worth it.

                1. Does having an extra 6 inches to your sight radius (28" vs 22") make a difference? I would think it should make a difference at some point, but whether it makes enough of a difference for most of your clay shooting by your average Joe-Blow clay shooter is arguable. What is absolutely true is that many skeet/trap ranges do NOT allow anything less than 26 "

                2. My 28 inch barrel goes in with some reluctance, ie. it's a tighter fit than the original 22. Variation in this fit may affect the function, so there could be some luck involved. My JM has ammo it likes, and ammo it doesn;t like, with either barrel. Yes, I do have an occasional hiccup with both barrels. That's something I accept for a low-end semi-auto shotgun.

                3. I used my 22" for 3-gun and 28" for clays and duck hunting. Would I rather have a separate gun for clays and duck hunting? Absolutely. In my ideal/fantasy world, I have a different gun for every occasion. Economic reality (being cheap) dictates for me going the route of using the same gun, with different barrels. The gun was murder on my cheek with the magnum duck loads though. I really, really want another shotgun.....

                Hope that helps OP.

From the Clay shooters perspective: 4" of more barrel is not going help you hit more targets unless you already have good shooting fundamentals under your belt IE... pointing the gun instead of aiming or staying in the gun though the entire shot.

So, a longer barrel or better fundamentals I'd put my money on fundamentals.

Increased barrel length also increases distance which is
                      A benefit for hunt

Got model #s for this? Does the 28" barrel have the accu choke? I've been trying to call Mossberg withouth any help.

Great thread, been wanting to get out and try trap but also get a jmpro for 3 gun. Guess I can go with the quicker swinging 22" and grab a 28" barrel to grt on the trap field without a dedicated trap gun commitment. Luckily the 590 A1 doesn't have the ability to swap to longer barrels so that will stay the dedicated home defense shotgun
