Believe it or not, with the 10-22, you could put one together for less than $600. The secret is in the barrel and the ammo. I built up one for a buddy, $270 for the rifle, $210 for the barrel, trigger and bolt work done by ourselves and an additional $100 for a Simmons rimfire scope and additional parts like extractor, buffer and firing pin. It was only a 3x9 scope but he was able to cover his 5 shot 50 yard groups with a dime using Wolf Match Target ammo. It does take some skilled work on your part but it can be done.

BrianRodela: the secret is in the barrel? i was told if getting a cold forged barrel, it would be too heavy to man-handle, but from benchrest it would be ok.

usmcchet9296: i found a shop in kentucky that has the 452 american, but debating if i should get that with a 22" barrel or go with the newer 455 model with 16" barrel.

Cusco, the added weight may seem like a bit but it really helps stabilize and steady the rifle when in the offhand position and seems to settle when in a supported position such as sitting or prone. The weight resists movement and slows down the barrel sway. My Service Rifle AR is 16 lbs. Sure, there is a limit and probably would make for a long day if used for hunting to use bull barrels on hunting rifles but for precision shooters, there is usually no better choice.

452 is a great rifle and if you go to the CZ section on Rimfire Central better then the 455 but I love my 455 and its a great shooter (MOA at 100) and if I ever want to I can get a Lijia barrel for it a lot easier than I could for a 452 so if I were you id get a 455.
and yes heavy is steady and lighter is faster

Or you can go with a 28.5" Barrel like my CZ452UL. I can shoot holes within holes using standard CCI Minimags at 100 yards outdoors.

No pics of mine (will take some tonight), but here's one from around the webs that's just like mine, but I have a Triad Tactical Stockpack since the 452's hogback stock makes for a hover cheekweld with any scope:

                Quote from Cooper:

"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

i found a couple new ones at a local shop today and having a hard time deciding.

                  CZ 455 American Combo 20.5" barrel $531
                  CZ 455 LUX - 20.7" barrel $429
                  CZ 455 Training Rifle 24.8" barrel $372

will check out some other shops before deciding.. but just out of those three, i'm sure they are all tact drivers, but any i couldn't tell the difference. the only thing i noticed is the 24.8" barrel felt very long when holding it standing. also, i noticed the wood stock by the front the barrel all have gaps in between, making room for some play when you to push the barrel down into the stock. is that normal?

That is exactly what I did. I started with a 455 Varmint, replaced the factory stock with one I built myself, replaced the factory barrel with Lilja barrel, pillared and bedded the action, and fluffed and buffed the action and bolt, and got the trigger down to 8 oz. The total weight is 11.5 pounds, but it is great for shooting from a bench. It may not be considered a "target rifle" but it shoots itty bitty holes with match ammo, and the best part, I only have $850 invested, after selling extra parts.

Savage MKII Not a lot done, but bedded, 1 piece base, Boyds Tacticool, Trigger work, and some polishing here and there, and paint by yours truly. Started life as bare wood.

Annies cost a LOT more than what I have invested here, and even better than that, I enjoyed building and fine tuning it.

I enjoyed building out my 455 VPT more than just buying a complete rifle
