    I went the "sleeper" route.
Bedded receiver, floated barrel (doesn't touch the barely band either). Kidd drop-in trigger. "Bolt hold open" mod. Mueller APV 4.5-14X40 scope.
Looks like original, doesn't shoot like original.
Daughter has claimed it as Hers.

              "Ruger" 10/22 Takedown

The only thing that's still Ruger is the receiver. Pretty satisfied with the accuracy, given it's a takedown. It likes Eley ammo.

              Engineered Silence Takedown Chassis
              Kidd Bolt Assembly
              Kidd Two Stage Trigger
              Duracoated receiver
              Volquarsten CF Barrel
              Volquartsen Muzzle Device
              Sig MPX Folding Stock

Being that it is a 1972 rifle, will the more modern kidd barrels, kidd trigger and new stock still marry up to the receiver?
                Yes.

Nothing terribly cool. Both have Hornet Trigger assemblies and little xtra bits thrown in as well.
