    New Kimber Rimfire

I love 1911's and I wish I had more than one but I didn't till now. I originally purchased a Springfield GI 1911 so me and my father, a Korean War Vet, could shoot togather but shortly after I got it my father passed away and it took me a while to want to take it out of the safe and fire it. Years passed and the price of ammo and the fact it was GI and not exactly setup how I wanted it made shooting it reguarly cost prohibative. I do have a Ruger 22/45 but to be honest its not a 1911 we fast forward to today and I am now the proud owner of a Kimber rimfire tactical 1911/22. Here are some pictures. I plan on shooting it tomorrow and will report on its functionality and reliability.

Well apparently there are alot of lookers but no posters
Anyway here is my initial impression of the Kimber
Took it to the range and fired off various brands of 22
Shot Federal 40 grain bluebox HV
Federal American Eagle red box 40 grain HV
    Winchester wildcat 40grain and 333 36 grain
a friend shot with his Federal bulk 36 grain SV
of all the Redbox and Winchester were the most reliable though I think the bluebox is too but I only shot about 30 rounds with that
I think all in all I put a few hundred rounds thru it and had about 20 or so failures to go to full battery or completely cycle with 2 stovepipes and I attribute this to the fact the gun was brand new and still needs to be properly broken in. As for accuracy once I put it to paper and zeroed it I can honesty say its on par and maybe better than my bull barrel Ruger 22/45.

Posted here is my best 10 shot grouping
I fired without a rest, standing both hands at 7 yards
You really cant get much better than this

In closing I think this will make a fine addition to my 2 other tactical 22's and hopefully one day I can take all three out for some 3-gun lovin

Nice! Another Kimber Rimfire owner. When I break-in new toys, I stick with high quality ammo before trying the bulk stuff. In the case of rimfires, I use CCI Mini-mags exclusively for the first 500 rounds or so. I haven't had any failures of any kind on mine granted I have been using CCI Mini-mags and Federal Automatch since break-in. I save the bulk stuff for the other toys

I've had my kimber for a couple of years now. it really has an affinity for CCI mini-mags, Winchester bulk (333 or 555) and Rem automatch. the book said not to fire std or low vel ammo, and they weren't joking. do you find if your pinky wraps around the bottom of the grip, contacting the magazine, the gun jams like smuckers? i really have to be aware of where my hand is, because if i'm even touching the magazine, it's jam, jam, jam
but having said that, i'm ringing a 4 inch steel plate off hand consistently at 50 yards. well, 4 per 10 round magazine is consistent, isn't it????

Bought some CCI the other day and yes they are better. Going to have to start getting them when I can .............. 4 out of 10 on a 4 inch at 50 isnt bad IMHO

not bad, but then i occasionally shoot next to a dude that has one of those electronically fired super whamodyne open class olympics single shot .22 pistols (you know the ones with a trigger pull of 5 grams....holy moley). he's consistently shooting one slightly bigger than a bullet sized hole. with open sights.
gives me something to strive for!

i checked out their site. some funky stuff.
what size did you get, and did you have to do anything to them for fit?
i'm guessing they should mount pretty easily, since the pistol is a light std frame kimber

Easy install. Just take out the screws and replace the old ones with the new ones. You just have to tell him the right specs for your gun.

Size: Full Size or Officer or Bob
Style: Govt. (MSH notch) or Flat Bottom (magwell)
                          Safety: Single safety or Ambi-safety
Thickness: Standard or Thinline (thinline grips require thin bushings and screws)

*Note that some of the designs can be aggressive in feel so let him know if you want them "dehorned" a bit. Everybody has different tastes.
