I want to shoot .22LR out of my AR. One of the local gun shops has one in a tube with a Brownell's label on it. Not sure who makes it or what mags it uses? Also I was looking at the DPMS unit. That looks Ok from the utube testing. Someone said I should get one that uses S&W mags but he didn't know what unit that would be...

whats a good AR .22LR conversion kit?

in my opinion the CMMG stainless conversions are the best. you can get one kit fully upgraded or start with the basic stainless and upgrade it as you see fit.
mine has been nothing but fun, no problems with a wide variety of ammo.
I got the stainless "bravo" kit with one 10 round magazine. i haven't had the need to upgrade it yet but i do plan on getting all the accessories and upgrades someday.Slapping an upper onto a lower is not "building" an AR-15.
What part of "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" do you illiterate pawns not understand!? -
^^^ ditto. I have a Tactical Solutions upper, and while great, more options on the CMMG and cheaper price point.
I don't have experience with the m&p magazines, but a lot seem to like it. They make an adapter to run with the CMMG. http://www.redi-mag.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=52sigpicComment

If you want a less expensive option, the Tactical Industries .22lr conversion has worked well for me. Don't expect great groups out of a conversion kit due to the barrel twist of your center fire AR.
I also own a dedicated Tactical Solutions upper which is very precise.
I'm happy with both options because they each serve a purpose for my needs.
I use Black Dog magazines and they work well with my conversion or dedicated upper. I have both the nylon and steel feed lips and they both function fine.

A conversion will give you 2-3" at 50 yards accuracy.
A dedicated upper cuts that in half.
An older CMMG stainless conversion works great--with the stainless chamber adapter, not the newer brass ones. They are weak.
Taccom makes an accurate, reliable upper in steel barrel or Ultra Light.
The DPMS was a nice upper but I would avoid it simply because it's not supported with parts.
Nordic made these and they were put on the back burner.

That is your right. You might not believe in God. That is your choice. However, if someone breaks into your home, the first two things you're going to do are, 1) Call someone with a gun, 2) Pray they get there in time.Comment

If you want to shoot .22 lr out of a AR platform, I suggest saving up for a CMMG .22 lr upper. More accurate, reliable, and keeps your 5.56 upper clean. It will pay for itself in about 2000 rounds.Comment
