What is standard velocity?

I grab a couple of bricks here and there whenever possible. All of them are around ~1200fps, Federal bricks, Rem Thunderbolt, Win M22. Are these considered standard velocity? I would think high velocity starts at 1400fps and up. Or is standard velocity 1000fps and below? Thank you.

The variety of .22 LR loads are often divided into four distinct categories, based on nominal velocity:

Subsonic, which also includes "target" or "match" loads, at nominal speeds below 1,100 ft/s (340 m/s).

Standard-velocity: 1,000–1,135 ft/s (305–346 m/s), common velocities are around 1,125 ft/s (343 m/s).

High-velocity: 1,200–1,310 ft/s (370–400 m/s) per second

Hyper-velocity, or Ultra-velocity: over 1,400 ft/s (430 m/s)

You want your ammo slower than ~343 m/s for rimfire accuracy to ensure that you do not get the transonic wobble. In all guns, stay above this level, or below this level if you want to shoot accurately.

The most important number is sonic and subsonic.
Speed of sound ~1125 ft/sec. Depends of alt, temp ect.
So if you don't want the supersonic crack or going past 50yrds
and don't want to trans sonic shock wave go sub sonic.
One gun I have will not cycle with 1200 but will with 1230.
Go figure. Also keep in mind this is the mfg spec. Depending on
gun YMMV.

No, over 1100 fps or so is considered high velocity. Most subsonic ammo on the market is 1025-1085 feet per second. Most popular is 1050-1080. The best example of transonic wobble, or what some call "flash" is from the popular airgun guy. Shows a high speed .25 cal pellet shake at a given speed. Many folks think faster = better accuracy. Subsonic ammo will not wobble as it hits trans. speed, or when it slows down, if it does.
