Question re: Scope for Ruger American

Is this too much scope for my new Ruger American .22LR? The rifle is for plinking and informal target shooting. Maybe a little varmint.

I have one on my RAR and like it, even though I haven't had a chance to try out the BDC dial calibrated for 36 gr hollow points. At $95 I may just buy another and mount it to a Marlin 60 I have.

No. I have one on a 10/22 & I like it. For even better precision Mueller 8x32 is popular.

Nope. I have the same scope on a 10/22 and nikon 12X on my RAR.
For what you want to do 9x will be just fine. Very clear glass.

Thanks for the replies guys. I can get it from Cabela's for $119.00 and use my Cabela's Bucks. Their regular price is $220 so I think I will jump on it.

I do like the Redfield Optics though. For the money they are hard to beat. I have a pair of their binoculars and they are great.

Just be aware it doesn't have a traditional crosshair...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the BDC reticle on that scope is not designed for the caliber of your gun. The holdover points on that scope will be all wrong for .22LR

I'd think you would want the Prostaff Rimfire 3-9 X 40.

I have one on my XT-22, and it's a great scope & value.

Nice catch Whip! I agree, the one I have is the Prostaff Rimfire BDC. The glass is very clear, I think you'll like it.

Don't get me wrong, the Nikon is an awesome scope for the money and the BDC Reticle is pretty nifty, that was just the wrong reticle for your gun.

I have the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 3-9 X 40 with BDC reticle for .22lr and I have nothing bad to say about it.
