    Ruger SR22 Question

Why are there so many Ruger SR22 pistols for sale on CL by their 2nd owners already in their young lives? Was thinking of buying one as a learners gun. Does any one out there own one who actually likes it?

Most of the "clone" type .22 pistols (Sr22, mosquito, etc) that are made to look like full size pistols (mosquito is a 90% scale P229, for example) seem to suffer from quirky problems.

I had a mosquito and it was mostly a good gun, but needed to be clean, lubed and fed good ammo to run well (they say MiniMags). I had run it on cheap ammo but it was finicky.

I believe the sr22 is similar. Something like a Mark III would be a better gun, however they lack similar controls and features for someone planning to move to a fullsize variant.

I liked my Mosquito but didn't love it, especially after .22 became scarce and expensive it didn't make sense to me to keep it.
The actual value of above $.02 is less than $.01 after taxes.

I have a mosquito and it shoots good w mini mags and Remington gb's. Ive shot 2 diff sr22's and so far, they've eaten everything my mosquito can't.

I have had an SR22 for a couple of years. Several thousand rounds thru the pistol with no issues. Have used over 10 different types of .22lr ammos without any problems. First issue of that pistol had some issues that were later resolved. Good plinker and fairly accurate out to 50 ft.

Same here got probably 10k rounds thru mine and only changed a roll pin that broke. I clean it every 2k rounds or so, and used all kinds of ammo. Love mine I'd buy another.

I've had my SR22 for a couple years. Its a nice little gun that runs great. Mine has never had a single misfire or jam of any kind. But I am not a big fan of the safety / decocker with the combination of not firing w/o a magazine. Theres a lot going on in it and for new shooters it's a bit complicated. And the fixed barrel is something I personally don't care for. Its not an issue with the gun, it's just a personal thing. I'd rather shoot my MKII for accuracy and training purposes, but I'd rather clean my SR22! Don't get me wrong I like my SR22, but if I could sell it for what I paid for it, I would. And since they're Off Roster here in CA, people can sell them w/o taking a loss.

OP, if you've ever held an SR22, it's quite a small gun. Likely around 60% of a full size. And because there's a hammer, I've heard it pinches bigger hands during fire. Very reliable though and eats every.

We have one now and it is the most fun of our .22s to shoot.
Not the most accurate but easy to hold for my wife and me with big hands with the mag extension.
                No pinching for us.
                Very few problems with ammo.
We also have 2 buckmarks and 2 Ruger Marks (I & II).
Friends have M&P 22s that we also like.

Heck, they are now selling ~$200 over original cost in the Marketplace. Some people love their pets, others sell when there is profit to be had.
                Ours stays.

SR22 great & reliable little gun. Maybe that's the issue - too little for big hands? I've got not issues with it.

Most of the SR22 that you see in the market place are probably "extras" that people had, and they're just re selling it.

SR22 is the one of the best if not the best .22 pistol i've shot.

My wife has one, I shoot it sometimes... I like it, she loves it. There's only two problems we have had.

                            1. If you don't get the recoil spring installed on the guide rod correctly, the SR22 will become a single-shot annoyance.
The key to getting it on right is: the first coil of the spring should fit snugly around the nearly invisible shoulder on the guide rod.

                            2. Limp-wristing will cause failures to cycle every time.

How the heck do you limp wrist a SR22? That thing is soooo light.
