Ruger 10/22 Takedown setup with quick detachable scope

I recently picked up a Ruger 10/22 50th anniversary camo model with flash suppressor from Big 5 on sale. I wanted a 10/22 but already own many 22's so the take down model was my choice at this time. After reading a ton of blogs about scope set ups, rail mounts and quick release rings, I decided to go with a Leupold VX-1 3-9x40mm Rifle Scope, a Leupold Rifleman Ruger 1022 scope mount(to replace the stock mount that came with rifle, this one allows you to use stock sights while screwed in place) and a set of Leupold QWR quick release high mount rings, all in matte black to match the rifle.
I figure by having quick release scope mounts I can use stock sights, and fit the scope in the stock soft bag 's third pocket for easy transport, bugging out, zombie apocalypse, or whatever only to have to quickly remount to rail and be back close to zero with no further adjustment.
My though process was a good quality optic that allows me to see easily at 100 yards, with great eye relief, a portable system that is accurate and breaks down to a small portable system. I will post pics once I get all of the parts(waiting on mail for the qwr rings). My plan is to hopefully help anyone else with similar needs compile parts that work well togethter. Hope this is helpful. I tried posting to an earlier thread of similar topic but the post was to old to reply too!
Lots of people have written similar thoughts as to optics choices, mounting rings, and aftermarket rails, as the stock rail, when mounted to the rifle, blocks the use of the iron sights already on the rifle.
I went with the Leupold rail because it has a groove down the middle that lets you see and use your stock sights when the scope is off(and it was only 8 bucks on amazon). This would be handy in situations where a scope isn't required, and quick acquisition is important. The scope was chosen for it's clear optics compared to anything close to it's price point of $189.00 at Dicks Sporting goods with my $10 dollar off coupon. Finally the quick release "high" scope rings from Leupold worked with the 40mm objective, but still maintained a low mount height, and came with excellent reviews, not to mention all the parts work flawlessly together, and no tools are requires to remove scope from rifle.
Looks like this rifle but matte black barrel

You could always use high mount see-through scope rings.
You can always get to your iron sights without having to remove the scope.
Get a Giles 3-point tactical take down sling.
Remove the separator stitching from one of the inside pockets in the ruger case.
You will be able to fit your scope attached to your 10/22 without taking it down.

I'm glad I could help. The quick release mounts were the hard part to find. Found them on an obscure web site and mail ordered them.
I like the idea of quick release mounts to keep everything slim, but I want to also see if they come back to zero or close to zero when remounted. If they don't it will be a permanent mounted scope.

That take down is a good choice for a convenient 10/22.

I purchased mine in late 2012 (at Big 5 also !), so it is a black stock and silver stainless steel barrel.
That Leupold scope is nice indeed for clear optics.

I chose the UTG Bug Buster 3-9X40 compact scope. Nice features for the price and quite clear with good eye relief.

I also gave up on the Ruger rail and bought a UTG rail similar to your Leupold rail.

The scope came with quick release scope rings like yours, but I opted for an offset scope ring similar (but not exactly) to the Leupold Mark 2 IMS AR Riflescope Rings Mount.

It still barely allows for iron sight use with the scope attached.
This system works well for me.
The rifle and scope is very accurate.
My set up with scope attached fits in the Ruger bag without bag modifications.

It keeps scope-zero regardless of take down activity.

Since I mostly target shoot with the scope, this system works well for me.

I can see how you optimized your Leupold set up to maximize your variables in use.

Right on, way to start the new year !

Enjoy it. If you somehow mark where the rings sit on the rail at optimal scope install position, then perhaps you can keep zero between use variables.

I should have some time off to post some pictures(Thursday or Friday) once I get everything on the rifle, finally got the quick release clamps in the mail this week.

Please! post up some pictures. I'm very interested in reading how the scope mounts back up to zero.

I'm new to scoped guns. I have a reg old 10/22 with the cheapest scope I could find. Its hard to imagine this gun could shoot any better with a high dollar scope set up.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.
                Happiness is a warm gun.

On the new scope mount plate there are grooves for the quick release mounts to lock into so they return to same spot ie.. zero. Length wise there is a groove that allows you to use your stock sights without removing the scope mounting plate. These pictures show the whole setup.
1st the bag with scope, and rifle

                  Next bag with flaps open

scope mopunt with grooves for locking mounts in place and center groove.

                  scope mounts on rifle
