    Remington 552 date question

A relative of mine has a 552 I'm doing a little bit of research on, and it's barrel has the code "BXG" on it.

I don't see an "XG" year code on the remington date of manufacture chart, so am I correct in assuming this rifle was made in january of 1973 and the "G" is an inspectors proof stamp, not a date code?
