HELP ME with my Ruger American 22lr

I noticed the standard mounting area for rings on the ruger American 22lr is very low. What kind of rings are people using and should I go with high or extra high? I am using a 50mm scope. Should I just get a new base to put on top first before rings? thanks

Might want to post your question at rimfirecentral.com . They have one section just for the RAR. I am sure someone over there has dealt with 50mm scopes.

That's a big scope to put on the dovetails. I recommend the Weaver #12 bases or the D.I.P. rail and high rings, at the minimum. Every 50mm I have is in high rings. There is lot's of dope on the RAR at RFC, as was mentioned.

I shot the rifle with sights on Monday and it was off. Really off. It consistently shot about 5 inches to the left of the target at 50 yrds. When I closely looked at the rear sight, I could tell it was a little off level. I don't remember Ruger ever being so sloppy.

Well said. High mount, see-through 1" weaver rings are great on the rifle. You can still get to the iron sights if need be.

when mounting a scope with high rings you will loose a good amount of vertical adjustment in the scope. mounting high will cause the POI to be lower than expected and you may run out of adjustment range when trying to zero beyond 50yds and depending on the max elevation ajustment of the scope, even less.

At 25 yards, open sights, shoots right on.
At 50' it shoots 1.5-2.5" groups with standard velocity. (Cci Standard velocity 1070)


With high velocity at 50", open sights, shoots to the right. I used Aguila High velocity and Winchester Super-X.

Been that way for the last few years. It's almost like the customer is their quality control. You complain or your new gun is a lemon they'll make good on it. Bet you didn't complain so their push em out the door in any condition plan is working.
