S&W 22a feeding issue

I took the new pistol out to the Washoe County Shooting range on Saturday to shoot it for the first time. I was shooting Remington Golden Bullets....

Each magazine was loaded with 10 rounds, when the slide was cycled it picked up the round jamming it into the feed ramp. Upon cycling the action it ejected the round and proceeded to jam the second round. Usually the 3rd round would feed properly into the action, the gun would then fire flawlessly until the magazine was empty. I'd eject the magazine and the process would repeat.

I did not have any other ammo to try at the time, I will try a couple of different mfgs. in the future. Anyone have a similar experience? Anyone have a solution or suggestion on how to correct the problem?

Could be the shape of the bullet. Some pistols do not function well with hollow point bullets. I have always used round nose bullet ammo, Aguila Std Vel, Centurion, Sk Std+, Wolf MT in my 22A-1 with no feed issues, never tried any hollow points.

The GB's are a roundnose not HP.

Are you cycling the first few rounds by hand?

With my S&W 22A, if I loaded the first round by pulling the slide and letting go, it would always cause a jam at the ramp. However, if I locked the slide open and loaded it using the slide release, it always loaded with no problems.

Looks like the end of the bullet has a hole in it to me, I guess I could be wrong.

Both of mine are ammo snobs. Both of mine didn't feed reliably until about the 500rd mark. Now they both work flawlessly. Mine didn't like GB's either. American Eagle & Aguila worked fine.

S&W responded today and recommended using CCI brand ammo to see if it continued.....If you can find it. I tried some Aquila from the release today at lunch and about half of them cycled. I'll keep shooting and trying different ammo brands until I find one that cycles reliably.

My 22a is omnivorous but I usually feed it Federal Champion bulk ammo.

I had a conversation with a guy who owned a 22A a few years ago, he said that he needed to send it to the factory before it was ever really reliable. Seeing as it is priced about $100 less than comparable .22's I was not surprised.

To clarify I was using 50 round boxes of the round nose GB's. I was fortunate to find a brick I had overlooked...

Use CCI's like S&W recommended. That is what I feed mine and never have a problem.

Mine use to go through GB like crazy. Then a pin backed out that holds a steel clip for the connection between the back of the top rail and the back of the frame.
I installed a new pin but now it does not like GB's
Bulk Federals work fine though.

By the way now that I cast and reload. I can shoot .44mag for almost the same price as .22LR.
The old 22A doesn't get much action lately.

Had a chance to run some Agulia this weekend at it cycled went into battery just fine.

Check the bullets for looseness in the case.
I've seen this before with the GB.
If the bullets are loose, they will often bend to the side during feeding and jam.

I tried Federal Automatch, CCI standard velocity, and CCI Mini Mag on my 22a. I had several FTF, FTE when using Federal, but no issue with CCI. My suggestion, load only 9 rounds in magazine. I tried and it help.
