Nice pick up. They seem to be rare at gun shows nowadays.
I bought one new back in the 80's for my Gold Cup.
I like the floating chamber concept, but it makes it a little more pain to clean.
You may have problems cycling non-standard velocity .22LR.
sigpicDon't ask how many guns I own, I lost count.

I have had mine build up with lead to the point that the floating part had to be driven from the barrel. The gap between chamber and barrel was crammed full of lead. Plays hell with accuracy too. I hear the solid barrel Aces and conversions were a bit more accurate.
All in all, these are fun guns to shoot.

I've seen this happen many times, although in most cases the pistol will
continue to shoot. I usually have to clean after 500 rds. Pete

Thinking I should return this and look for a true original kit. This is why selling price on GB was $440 not $1000 it seems.
I have a Colt .22 conversion I picked up in the late 1970's. I have fitted it to pre-Series 70, Series 70, Series 80, Springfield, and Kimber frames. Sometimes it's a little tricky to align the ejector so the slide will fit on the frame. You might think it's the recoil spring plug and recoil spring, but it's the ejector.

You can also use a slide stop from an Advantage Arms or Marvel .22 conversion with your Colt conversion slide. It's is different from a regular 1911 slide stop because it is made of two pieces. http://www.advantagearms.com/mm5/mer...Code=1911Parts

Magazines with the ACE stamp are very expensive. They are more for collectors than shooters. You can use magazines from Metalform that are stamped "Colt.22LR" on the removable base plate. I was told by a magazine vendor that Metalform made 30,000 of these magazines over a decade ago and what's out there today is from that run. The prices are going up as the supply dries up.

GSG is making a metal magazine that Marvel Precision is using for their .22 conversion. I haven't tried them. http://www.marvelprecision.com/acc.php

The Colt .22 Conversion is nothing more than a collector's item and a plinker. The floating chamber actually increases the felt recoil, but does nothing for accuracy. The recoil impulse feels strange, nothing like a .45 or .22LR. My conversion has been put away for years and I probably should sell it but there is something wrong with the rear sight blade (I didn't catch it when I bought it.).

Good luck with your .22 conversion.

FYI. The Kimber kit is cheap, quality and runs like a champ.

Colt Ace slides are clearance cut for a 45 ejector.

That was the whole point of it. To better simulate a 45 recoil for training.

Mine was/is very accurate on my Gold Cup. I haven't shot it in nearly 30 years.
It's in its box, in my safe... Or at least I think so. Lol

I seem to remember that the floating chamber also increased the sound too. Don't know if that was intended though.
