Wifes Ruger SR22 Handgun

This is a real head scratcher to me. My wife has had trouble with her little SR22. Would not cycle and fire the second round sometimes. After she cleared that second round. The rest would go off perfectly.

I happened into some Rem Golden Bullets. I usually will not buy those, but they were cheap.

Anyway it did this malfunction with Federal Bulk packs. CCI standard velocity worked great. I like Federal, it works great in my Rimfires.

But I am amazed that with the Golden Turds her little SR22 runs perfect. Who would have thought that

Best thing is now I can keep my CCI standards for myself. My favorite .22 ammo.

GBs are not as bad as people make them out to be. I shoot them when I find them, wish I had a bucket right now.

When I had my SR22 (just sold it) the only ammo I really had problems with was the Federal American Eagle (red box) stuff that I picked up at my local gun store... Rarely had any problems besides a few failure to feeds with the Federal Bulk packs. Some people claim that gun won't cycle basically anything but CCI mini mags

Federal Bulk is the one that causes her problems. The CCI standard (1050 FPS) and the REM Goldens run perfecty.

The quality of the Remington GBs have improved quite a bit.

The Federal bulk pack ammo has reduced powder charge and reduced bullet weight, and does not have enough energy to reliably cycle short barrel auto pistols.

CCIs are great as always.

My SR22 has ejection issues with a lot of different ammo (except Mini Mags, of course). Cases often stay stuck in the chamber. It's easily the least reliable gun I own. I haven't tried Golden Bullets yet, but CCI Blazers run flawlessly. Discovering the Blazers kept me from selling my SR22. I'll give Golden Bullets a try.

Deja vouz? Worth noting again, different bullets work with different guns some better and some not so much.

I do use a few (five or so) Stingers when I run into a particular stubborn gun, that and some oil in the chamber will usually get a gun working.

My sr pretty much eats all ammo. I do get failures but that's after many rounds....and it doesnt get cleaned that often, usually 2000 or more rounds before cleaning.

I buzzed the chamber with a brass brush too. Also made sure the feed ramp was polished.

If you run the right ammo. ( as said, hers runs CCI standard and rem goldens perfectly) They will run flawlessly. Also I never use a wet lube on any .22. Rifle or Handgun. Only Dry Lube. Alot of liquid oil in any .22 is asking for trouble. I do put a tiny drop of liquid on the firing pin and extractor areas.

She has ran CCI stingers before and they work great too, but too expensive for Plinking.

I am somewhat skeptical of the excuse of each .22 ammo likes its favorite being the whole problem.

We have two AR22 CMMGs that will run absolutely any brand flawlessly we have ever tried. So a Quality .22 should be able to do the same. It is not impossible to do so.

So I do blame some malfunctions on the quality and design of the Firearm itself, rather than completely on the ammo,when they refuse to run any brand.

I realize a Handguns encounter problems sometimes not associated with a rifle. But I am confident it can be done in a .22 Handgun if they try, instead of the theory of getting it to market and start making money ASAP instead..

I only use grease for my guns.... Coastal grease from the zone think it was 10$ or so for 4lb tub.

That sounds like twenty- five years supply of lube.

I honestly prefer rem GB. All I can seem to find are the thunderbolts tho. After I get a new barrel for my 10/22 I will be going through a lot more ammo.

I've got a deposit down on an sr22 atm to get SSE'd, got about 2k assorted cci stingers and mini mags and another 5-6k bulk stuff. Really looking forward to practicing with a handgun a lot for cheap. It seems like a really nice gun and from what I recall feels good in the hand.

My son's SR-22 would short cycle almost every other round. After doing some interwebz snooping, I discovered the Galloway guide rod. Apparently, some people believe the OEM plastic guide rod has too much flex. Not sure if it's true or not, but since installing the Galloway, our SR-22 has been 100%. This is with a mix of CCI Blazer, Standard, MM, and Federal AM.

Now I love this little pistol! In testing, I just blasted at a 1" Shoot-n-C at 7 yds. and couldn't miss. Keeper.
