    10/22 barrel droop

Most of my shooting is off a bench. I'm looking into bedding and free floating the barrel on a new build. bedding has it's own pros and cons, but I'm thinking as most are telling me there is barrel droop, why not put the scope rail on the barrel rather then receiver? has anyone done this with good results ?

Check out Volquartsens's web site. I believe they have a scope mount that does not touch the receiver.
The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.

Some idiots are too busy knowing it all to ever learn anything

You can also use a compensating rail. 10 or 20 moa depending on severity of droop. You can also shim under the rail under the back screw. I've used small pieces of soda can cut with scissors. Use a paper hole punch and use the inside face of the can against any steel. It has a plstic coating that will prevent electrolysis between dissimilar metals. Only use shims under one piece rails otherwise you can damage your scope. Official poor redneck fix. There are also elevation adjustable rings for air rifles. Sunoptics.com

bedding is not difficult... I would also suggest an aftermarket bull barrel if you still have the factory barrel....

But most 10/22's are accurate out to the range of the round... you can hit steel at 200 with no issue one you find your dope...

What groups do you get with your 10/22 and at what range?

How does compare to your other rifles?

What sights or optics are you using?

        If using optics, then what:
        Scope manufacturer
        Ring Manufacturer
        BAse manufacturer
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

great answers but, I'm looking for someone who has done this or knows reason for doing it.
Volquartsens web site has a scope mount on the barrel. Interesting idea, as the light weight receiver is going to have a barrel hanging way over it, has anyone done this?
and yes a compensating rail would work, till the barrel get hot I suppose. Shimming is not an option as I want full contact. As for parts I have a few 80% and a brand new factory receiver, some new 50th anniversary bolts, a new Ruger stainless bul lbarrel hammered, a trigger from Brimstone, a Viper Vortex, but I might get a Leopuld 45x45 comp scope, and a benchrest stock 3" wide to fit my papas rest. I shoot mostly 50yds with 22lr. at A.R.A targets

Are you doing rapid fire off the bench? If not, I wouldn't worry about the barrel heating up since a compensating mount is on the receiver. Seems to me if the scope is mounted on the barrel, it would add more weight to the barrel and possibly contribute to more droop or mess with the barrel harmonics. Just seems counterintuitive to me. I have a Viper Vortex PST on my .308 in an A5 stock. One of the main reasons I purchased it was the amount of internal adjustment in the 6-24x50 model. Coupled with a 20 MOA rail, it will dial up further than the rifle can shoot accurately. Nikon also has some models with higher than average internal adjustment. You should be able to get a good zero at 50yds with either brand, although significant droop will take the scope further out of optical zero. I used to have a first year of production 10/22T and basically that thing was lights out right out of the box with a cheap Bushnell 4-12x40 AO. Shot it out to 150 yards with plenty of come up in the scope. Granted I wasn't focusing on strictly bench shooting. YMMV

I also found this little tidbit using Google.
