Walther Colt M4 repro in .22 LR extraction problems?

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum, but just read a very informative (old) article about this rifle that I just purchased, a Walther-made clone of a Colt M4 in .22 Lr. Although I haven't tried to shoot it yet, I noticed during a function test that it will absolutely not extract live rounds and eject them. It appears to be an extractor issue. Has anyone else experienced this with one of these? I have worked as a gunsmith and am not afraid to dig into it, but I just think a brand new gun should function properly. I don't want to have to absorb a lot of cost in returning the gun to Umarex/Walther, has anyone done this before? Some manufacturers pay for shipping - they just send you a FedEx prepaid label, but I doubt these guys would do that - hopefully I'm wrong about that. Thanks in advance for any helpful hints/advice.

There's another Walther post here. A mp5 With the same issue. I own both and have never had an issue with either one .
Do you have pics? Most of the Walthers are pretty much the same inside you might get an idea from the mp5 Post

Call manufacturer and ask for RMA number, should find the phone number in the manual. Last warranty issue I had a manf., they sent me a mailing label by email and prepaid with UPS.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I do intend on taking apart my properly functioning MP 5 replica to compare the extractor/spring/housing assemblies with the one from the M4 that seems to be malfunctioning. I'm going to try and shoot the M4 first though, to make sure it isn't an issue with extracting live rounds versus fired cases. If it runs I'm not going to mess with it, obviously. Thanks again.

If this is the Colt made by Walther maybe and marketed through Umarex, good luck with any dependable service. I suggest you dump it and either buy a SW MP 15-22 or build a "real" dedicated AR22. The latter being the best option if you can afford it.

I have one and it's never had extraction problems except with under powered ammo. The trigger group/bolt is a single unit so you need to know what you're doing to mess with it.

Mine has been sitting for the last year or so, AR's with conversion bolts are more fun and easier to digest .22LR's.

I know it's older thread, but my HK 416D .22 LR made by Walther Arms, Inc. (owned by Umarex a German company) has similar extraction problems. I just bought the .22 HK 416 on June 1, received to FFL on June 7th and have fired it ok. It is when you have a live round in the chamber and wish to extract it that it does not work. My SIG 522 throws the live rounds quite a distance out the ejection port. Bought a new extractor from Walther Arms and got in Saturday in the mail. $26.xx for a 19.00 extractor and shipping.... WOW!! I changed out the extractor and has the same issue. New extractor from the factory and still leaves the bullet in the chamber. Please pass the pocket knife!

Why would Colt and HK allow such a strange liability firearm to exist with their name attached to it? Saw some other Colts at local gun store and they all have the same extractor and all have the same issue of getting the unfired round out of the chamber.
