10/22 Build

I have an old 10/22 that I am refurbishing and all of the sudden I have enough parts to build another. I am looking for a receiver. Any ideas on the cheapest route....

I think the absolutely cheapest route is to just go out and purchase a Ruger 1022 carbine. I believe the going price for this is less than $300 out the door no?

You still will need to DROS, transfer and register the thing.

Keep an eye out. Sometimes you can find a bare receiver for about $100 on here or gunbroker.

Thanks for the comments. The gun I am rebuilding was purchased in 1985. I was 11 at the time and my Aunt bought it for me. I have no idea if it is registered. I was going through my folks attic and came across it. I am not familiar with the laws and what I have to do to register it if it is not already registered. Any advice??

You do not need to register this thing. You owned it before all those onerous laws took effect here. If you do transfer it ... then transfer it to your children.

Unfortunately, ALL transfers ... now ... in the State of California must be registered.

Criminals do not register their transfers ... funny that!

They do not register your firearms, (except registered assault weapons ... 'RAW') ... They register ALL transfers ... In effect ... it is a de-facto registration of the firearm.

Go over to Rim Fire Central. They are for sale often. There was one a few days ago for $110, don't know if it's gone yet. Post a WTB over there, you will probably get a quick response.
