    Eley Target vs Eley Sport?

Never used these any real difference is it worth any extra cost to buy the Target?

Target is by far the better ammo ... however, not by much ... at least this is what I found with the testing I have done.

    I think Eley discontinued sport.

I now use the Aguila Super Extra HV This stuff is pretty much the same thing.

Aguila Super Extra ... This is Mexican Eley ammo!

The Eley sport is produced in Mexico by Aguila using Eley primer. Eley target is produced by Eley in England using Eley components. Best way to tell is test a few boxes of each. I'd be surprised if the sport was more accurate, but every gun is different....

If you like to have fliers get the Sport. If not, get the Target or Match

For bench rest shooters, Eley made in England is pretty standard. They are made in batches off 7 machines. Shooters will buy a few off 3-5 different machines and batch lots before stocking up. Eley has a company range in Texas, I believe it is about $90 to ship your rifle for testing. They will try different lots till the best for your barrel is found. It's way out there for a weekend shooter. But very common for competition. My bolt action 22lr is chambered for Eley only.

I would agree with reload4fun that you would not need to worry about the ammo unless you are competing. It is nice that Eley has a testing facility in Texas and worth the time to send your rifle or pistol if you want to make sure you eliminate fliers. Good shooting all

Sport is OK for chickens and pigs in silhouette rimfire, but is very unreliable past 50M. You just don't know where it is going to go. Remington white or blue box std vel is better than sport. It is also quite a bit dirtier than most other std target and match type ammo. I quit using it.

Sport is Eley's economy plinking round: the British version of Thunderbolt.

Pretty much. It works OK, but it will cost you points at 77 and 100 meters.

I would rather use Sport than 99% of the cheapie bulk-packed junk.

Just don't take any long shots that are going to count!

I was comparing Eley Club, Eley Sport, and Wolf Match Target. Five, five round groups of each. The WMT did the best by far, but all five groups of the Sport were similar-this one was just a little tighter than the others. The Club, not as good. I could get 1" to 1-1/2" groups from the club at my best.

IDK, sport seemed to do a bit better than that for me. I would say the Club is their economy plinking round. I suspect all three are made on the same assembly line, and the classification comes after testing and statistical analysis.

There are two Eley Sport ammos. One made in Britian (Green Box, not sold in the U.S.) and the other made in Mexico by Aguila (Purple Box). The Mexican version is made on some Eley machinery purchased from Eley Britian when Eley upgraded their machines with a license to use the Eley Primer technology.

Aguila also offers the same ammo as Eley Sport labeled Aguila SuperExtra @ 1070 FPS Solid round nose. I purchased a case of this from CMP.org and its a step above your garden variety bulk ammo and will shoot close to SK Standard Plus/Wolf MT but with the occasional flyer that spoils the group but it is nearly half the price of the SK or Wolf so I use it for trigger practice but not for informal competition. Good ammo for the $$$ and I have never had a misfire, jam or failure to eject in fpir different rifles and 3 different pistols.

As with all rimfire ammo your rifle/pistol may like it or not. My preference for low cost quality ammo in order is Eley Target followed by SK Standard Plus or Wolf MT (actually the same ammo in different boxes). At spprox $340/5000 the Eley Sport or Aguila 1070 FPS is a good ammo IMO. Happy Shooting.
