Just purchased a Ruger Mk iii Target and was thinking of replacing the magazine disconnect safety with a Tandemkross bushing. What are the ramifications of doing this?

The ramifications are that it will be able to fire without the magazine in place. That's all. Nothing more. Nothing less.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

The magazine will be able to drop free after the mod, instead of having to be gripped and removed. The gun is easier to take apart since you don't need a magazine for the procedure. I did it on my Mk III. The part is very high quality and I would not hesitate to do it to every Mk III I owned. I can't think of any reason I wouldn't do it or any downside, unless you like Mag Disconnect Safety.Last edited by SkyHawk; 08-04-2014, 4:01 PM.Comment

Since you are at it, take off the LCI and replace it with this https://www.tandemkross.com/mobile/M...lack_p_16.htmlOnly two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

I definitely recommend doing this. For me, the ability to do the takedown without the mag in, mag out hassle is the biggest benefit. Also, just occasionally the mag disconnect parts would cause my mag to not seat just right, and leave me with a dead trigger. No more. Add in the benefit of a slight improvement in the feel of the trigger, and it's 10 bucks well spent.Comment

Yes definitely do the LCI mod too - get the parts at the same time and save on shipping. The LCI part fits very well...

Only 22/45 models needs the slingshot mod. If it isn't a 22/45 model, you don't need it. +1 grip bumper extension is a ticket to legal trouble in CA unless you modify it to block the extra round. The bumper they have that does not add rounds, is for 22/45 models only.Comment

One of the ramifications of removing the mag disconnect on a MKIII is that if you put in the magazine backwards it won't be hung up requiring a near full strip of the gun. A week after doing that once resulted in both of my MKIIIs having the disconnect and loaded chamber indicator removed. Should have done it the day I bought the guns.Send Lawyers, Guns and Money - On second thought, hold the Lawyers.Comment

I bought the LCI and bushing but have been to lazy or busy to install. It will be done before I shoot it again.Comment
