Falcon Bench Rest 22lr

I've been shooting off a rest for a while and really enjoying it. Have a custom 10/22 but my Savage 93 bolt action has been my favorite. I think I have maxed out what I can get out of the rifle and am thinking of a Falcon bench rest 22lr with a tuner. Yes I could own a safe full of Marlins or Rugers for the same money but my though is that the rifle is way over my capabilities and will make me a much better marksman. Anyone here shoot a Falcon?

You can go with any rifle you want but, if you don't have ammo that shoots best in that gun, it's not going to reach it's peak. Have you tried high end target ammo in your 93 yet? Also, what type of rest system are you currently using? You might try tweeking the rests, getting custom bags to match your stock's profile, etc. Are you competing or just playing at the range?

you are right about ammo, my 93 is 22 mag. Shoots great, I really have no complaints. I know the Falcon is set up for Eley 22lr. ammo. and I do understand that I will be spending a lot on ammo and what lot numbers work better, what loader they came off of..... I don't plan on using my Caldwell Rock with this gun. I will get a comp rest set up. But I have no plans on competing, just making very small holes , one threw the next. My question is still on Falcon info, I don't see that many bench shooter here.

I do all my shooting in Cali at 50 yrds. and I enjoy Prado for my rim fire.
I also spend more time on the 200 yrds range in Az. working with a 700 in 22-250 on a bench. I was more interested in other bench shooters thoughts
on a Falcon, I know there are other guns out there very capable. The rifle I have in mind could compete on a national level. but again I was looking for input from other bench shooter. I might be posted in the wrong forum.

I spent over $2k building my last 10-22. If you want to try out a high end 22 and have the clams, buy once cry once.

Rimfirecentral guys should be able to help you with the Falcon specifically, since most of us here havent even heard the name haha.

Thanks for the input guys. Don't think for a moment I don't like shooting my 10/22's, marlins, savages, This brand I'm looking at is a whole different direction. Nothing to do with what it cost or cost to shoot, more about it's capabilities and the unknown factor,,,,, me.

I wish I had experience with a Falcon or any .22lr built for BR shooting. My only BR shooting experience is 1000 yard stuff with .50BMGs. BR shooting is a specialty and there aren't many BR shooters on CGN.

Sounds like you want to spend money on a comp. rifle that is on a level most don't know exist. They are some amazing firearms, thank you for making me look into them.
During my search I found a dealer in Texas that deals with used. It appears that if you buy used and don't like it you'll be able to sell at zero or little loss.
Keep us posted on your quest. Seems like something I'd like to get into after retirement.

44fred, I think you see what some miss.
Let me explain a little more of what got me started. I have been target shooting since the mid 60's, I still have my NRA hunters safety card I earned as a cub scout. I started with my semi auto's getting into making them tac drivers. Trigger work, barrels, bedding, stocks, ect. From there I went to bolt action, and sitting at a bench. I was out at the range in Az. ringing a gong at 200yrds with my 22-250. I guy showed up and layed a mat down on the ground. He pulled a custom cz with a viper scope. I watched him set up his target and was interested in the 5 across, 5 down on a 10"x10" paper. He started at the top and put 5 holes in each circle. I got a chance to shoot his gun, one shot 1/2" off, the next 4 threw the same hole. This wasn't an off the shelf CZ, and the rangemaster later told me the guy came in from out of state to compete, he took 2nd place. A few weeks later same range I met a guy with a Cooper. Second time he had ever shot it. He's shooting 50yrds at a ARA comp target and scoring very very well. These are not hey lets go out to some BLM land and shot up stuff guns. I've got 10/22's and bolt actions for that too. These are built as a one off, knock the wings off a knat one at a time guns. If you are willing to learn more about the ammo you use, wind, breathing, mind set, a tuner, bench rest, and some luck, this kind of a rifle can take you to a whole different level of shooting. That is my basic thought, nothing to do with money, hell how much have we all invested in rugers, savages, marlins, cz, and after 3-4 of those most are content. But there are a few who want to see the next level or 2.

I never took it that way.
I've been interested in bench rest shooting since day one. Never been involved in competition due to time dedication needed to compete.
For me shooting was always being able to hit your target no matter how small. A clean kill while hunting was paramount.
Today it's hard to pass that on to the younger crowd that has grown up with video games and the spray and pray mentality. No disrespect but I'm thinking most here in the 22 section are of the younger crowd with that mentality.
Spending 4 hours at a range and only firing a few rounds or reloading while you shoot is foreign as well.

I don't think so. I'd love to get into rimfire BR shooting but, I'm afraid that I would end up neglecting my other guns if I got serious and built or commissioned a dedicated BR gun. Then, I'd probably move to rail guns and spend a fortune on my own machine shop to keep tinkering with it. For now, I'll stick to the once or twice a year I can get to a match and shoot 1000 yard BR and just keep dreaming about a rimfire set up. I'll confess, my problem is that I have a 100 yard range at home and would end up shooting a rimfire until I went broke and/or developed bad habits. With the big 50, I don't shoot them at home 'cause, I don't want to P of the neighbors.

There will be one more big 50 bench rest guy soon. I'm just waiting on Dave Moore to finish my gun. I hope to shoot a couple FCSA matches next year.
