    First Ruger....hahaha Its mine!!!

Never thought I'd get a 10/22. I already have a Cmmg dedicated 22lr upper with a better mag adapter and sw 15-22 mags, that I was more than satisfied with. Well that was until I took an appleseed class.

The Cmmg upper performed flawlessly aside from a few double feeds due to not loading s&w mp15-22 mags properly. I found out that when looking from the back of the magazine the cartridges have to be staggered left/right. If you get a little too overzealous trying to pull down the load assist button more than required to insert a single cartridge then you'll load them left/left or right/right which will lead to double feeds.

Any ways after getting home from the class I immediately went to look up 10/22s for a more dedicated appleseed training rifle. That's where I found the 50th anniversary contest winning Ruger. Well just got her home and took her apart to examine everything. Can't wait to shoot her!

Only question is that it came with a rear peep that is the same on the Ruger gunsite scout. Any idea on how to zero it? The instruction manual didn't come with any instructions.

Seconly it came with the Ruger American stock with the adjustable LOP and comb. Is there a rubber butt pad I can install on the back of it? And am I able to sand the mag well? I bought a few of the clear ruger magazines and they do not drop free, black one that came with the rifle does.

you can never go wrong with having a Ruger 10 22...
accurate, aftermarket parts by the truckload, and all the ones I've ever shot have been super reliable.

I personally would go with the black old style rotary magazines from Ruger and not aftermarket brands, if you can afford it.

be careful if you take it all the way apart because there is a small part or two that can be lost.

also I have seen the barrel band break because it's only aluminum and is strong but brittle and will break if bent when trying to remove it.

sorry I can't help you with your stock or peep sight questions because I've never experienced that was on the Ruger 10/22.

FWIW - I had multiple failures (ftf) per 10 round mag when using "aftermarket" (non-Ruger) mags with plastic feed lips on my 10/22 Takedowns. This was with 3 brand new mags.
When using Ruger rotary mags with steel lips, however, I have not had any failures over about 4000 rds.
I highly recommend using Ruger mags. I think they all have steel lips.

Hard to stop at just one 10/22. So much aftermarket & so many ways you can go with one.

10/22's are great. i have the carbine model (very bare-bones looking gun with wood stock).

i think most of your questions have been answered, but regarding the aftermarket buttpad...i'd advise against getting one for a couple reasons:
              1) the recoil is extremely light. my 8 year old put 200 rounds through our 10/22 a few weeks ago and there is absolutely no recoil pad on the gun.
              2) buttpads (especially the really soft ones) can stick to clothing, making it more difficult to properly shoulder the rifle.

I'm not sure why you need or want to install a butt pad on a .22. These are so light and have very little recoil. The clear Ruger mags will loosen a little over time but still may not release as easily as the black ones. I reserve my clear ones for non-competitive shooting.

The clear mags are slightly thicker / wider than the black ones.
Yes, you can open up the stock on the inside to let them fit / drop out better.

You might be able to lightly sand the clear mags, if the black mags fit well. It just depends on how far off it is. I had the same problem. I bought some of those three way mag clamps for the ruger rotary mags. The extra weight of the other two mags and clamp made the mags drop very easily, so I didn't bother sanding my mags after that. That combo is still short so it seems to work well when shooting from the bench or if you were to shoot prone. The hot lips mags are long and when you snap three of those together, they really hang down a ways below the gun.

After thousands of rounds of ammo, I had extraction issues with my 10/22. I completely disassembled it and cleaned it, and I ordered a VQ extractor and installed it. That took care of the problems and now it runs like a top. While I was at it, I added a long mag release lever that wraps up under the trigger guard. I should have done this work years ago. The extractor is around 10 bucks and the mag release was probably 30 bucks. It was well worth the money.

                      Congrats on the new 10/22!

I like our 10-22, but we had it first before the CMMG dedicated uppers, (we have two dedicated uppers).

I am opposite of you. We had the 10-22 first then the Dedicated uppers. The poor little Ruger has not seen daylight since the advent of the CMMGs

They are very nice. If you want to mod stuff. The AR Platform wins hands down in that category. The AR15 Platform is endless if you like to modify stuff..

Have fun with the new 10-22. They are decent little Rifles.

This is correct. I have a plethora of the clear mags which I never had trouble with when used in my 10/22. They clicked in and dropped out easily. However, when I bought a Ruger American Rimfire, which uses the same mags as the 10/22, it came with a black mag which fit great, but the clear mags had to be "persuaded" to go in. They didn't get stuck, exactly, but getting them in and out was a laborious chore and so I just ended up using the one black mag it came with.

10/22's are great guns. I have in jail a 10/22 TD that would probably have been my only .22 if they had come out 15 or so years ago.
