Just wanted to share my results for my budget 10/22 build and a fun time Monday morning finally testing it out as well as a question to an issue I'm having.
My build:
Stripped 10/22 receiver from calguns member and parts from my coworker
Hogue Stock
Bushnell 3-9x40 scope
PC titanium extractor
PC extended mag release
Volq. hammer and bolt kit
Adams & Bennet 18" Bull barrel
Weaver rail with utg rings
UTG bipod
ammo: remington, federal bulk, and blazer
This rifle was a very budget build as I received the parts to build up a stock 10/22 from my coworker's husband after he passed away. All I needed was a stripped receiver and I was good to go. Picked up the barrel from a fellow calgunner last week and finally got to shoot it at Chabot yesterday at 50 yards and 75 yards. Forgot my staple gun at home so was unable to use my targets but did have my shoot and see dot stickers that I made use of.
Three red dots left, center, right were at 50 yards, and black dots were at 75 yards. Scope was shooting low and right when first sighting in, but I took about 10 shoots each sight in just to see if it was consistent.
All in all, pretty happy with the rifle and was impressed by the adams barrel. I had heard it was very picky about ammo and would be a tight fit in, but worked out wonderfully. Total rifle build was under $250 after selling and trading off some of my stock ruger 10/22 parts but the issue I was having all day were double feeds and FTE's. It seems my extractor is not catching the rimfire rounds at all and failing to yank them out.
On top of that, some of my new 10/22 mags were jamming with the remington rounds, after the 5th or 6th round loaded into them, they'd lock up and fail to feed. Would breaking down and cleaning the rotary mags be recommended? My older used ones (about a yr old) worked just fine, even with the remington rounds, but the newer ones had that issue all morning.
The extractor really bothered me, went with PC TI but should have just gotten a volq. extractor...but maybe I'm missing something, this was my first go round with working with a 10/22. Aside from the mag issue, I saw no noticeable difference in using either ammo. This was my first time shooting with a scope and it definitely helped my poor four eyes head. I do have a stock, just iron sights 10/22 that I've handed off to my wife so we can shoot together. Checked to see if I could eject rounds with her rifle using the various ammo and all worked just fine, so fairly certain its the extractor. I do have the stock one left, so will need to try that out once I get my Kidd extended charge handle in (now I know why guys use those, everytime I kept ejecting jammed rounds or locking back my bolt, fingers and knuckles kept hitting the scope adjustment knobs).
