    Target .22 handgun

I have been looking for a Ruger mark 3 target or hunter, however I have found to my dismay that they are rapidly going off roster. Any suggestions as to another target .22 handgun I should be looking at ?
    Thanks for your help

Browning Buckmark Camper. If you do get the Ruger, buy a speed strip kit: http://majesticarms.com/id10.html

I have a mkII 22/45 target. I love it. The rugers are great.

I used to own a browning buckmark. Sold it after I got the ruger.

I can not recommend the browning.

As the first reply stated however.... SW 41 for the win....

          So.. in that order...

          SW 41
Ruger mk or mk 22/45 depending on your preference of grip angle.

.22 rimfires shoot and perform pretty similarly (in terms of accuracy). I really can't stress this part enough. In terms of accuracy, they perform similarly. And it has been this case historically (see accuracy testing in: http://www.bullseyegear.com/bullseye...ews/?page_id=9 )

I did some informal accuracy testing myself and found that my Ruger 22/45 was on par with my model 41. The $900 difference was in the trigger, all steel construction, and better factory sights. The model 41 also came with very nice wood grips. Model 41 is a flat out better quality gun. It feels like a full sized centerfire pistol, whereas the 22/45 felt like a polymer plinker. Unfortunately it just didn't fit my hand well, so I ended up selling it and keeping the 22/45.

                So what do I recommend?

Any .22 pistol that has been USED successfully in bullseye competition in the last 5 years. Ruger Mark II or III, with or without custom work from Volquartsen. S&W 41. 1911 .22 conversion (Marvel Precision is good). In fact, go to your local bullseye match and ask the old marksmen if you can try their prized pistols.

I shot High Standard target pistols for a long time, they are still an excellent option. I happened across a Model 41 that needed some love for not a lot of money. The 41 is a quality handgun and it will spoil you for others. In either case if you buy used be sure to swap out recoil springs. If you can find CCI Standard Velocity is a good place to begin.

The mark III 22/45 doesn't fall off until June 18 i think and both my local guns stores had them in stock and turners had them on sale last week. Both the 22/45 and Buckmark are great guns.

I have the MKIII Hunter. There is no way I would part with that pistol. It seems more consistent at 100 yards than my 10/22 rifle. It is very reliable, which is the reason I bought it over a compact polymer pistol I was looking for. I love the weight of the stainless frame and fluted barrel. I recently stripped the frame of all parts and cleaned it. It was very dirty. just spraying it out with cleaner (i used water based cleaner and a kitchen sprayer followed by compressed air) doesn't get everything clean. I watched a youtube video and got it all back together. They can be a PITA to take apart and reassemble, so just find a video and take your time. I had mine pulled apart, cleaned, and reassembled in a couple hours. It will be a while before I strip it down that far again.

My dad has an old high standard which shot well, but it needs repaired now and I haven't found out if the parts are available.

I have an AMT 22 semi auto pistol of my grandfather's that looks like a copy of the Rugers, but I haven't shot it to compare it to the Hunter. AMT's were hit and miss on the 1911's for quality.

I have the older MKIII 22/45 with no grips, thinking about DROsing another 22/45 with the .45 Grips. They are tack drivers once you replace the Front sights as well as polish up the trigger group. Simply a Joy to shoot, feels like I am cheating at the range sometimes.

Some people complain its hard to strip a ruger and get it back together. It's easy after you do it a few times. No biggy.

The buckmark- The issue is the rear sight strap is held by 2 screws. You must remove it to take the pistol apart for cleaning to get the slide and recoil spring out.

Every single time you take it apart and put it back together, you have to adjust the sights. It never goes back in the exact same spot.

The ruger strips apart with the sights or in my case red dot still attached to the barreled reciever.

Also, in the buckmark, there is a thin rubber buffer pad in the recoil spring that wears out and needs to be replaced once in a while. There are no wear items like that in the ruger.

I got tired of sighting in the browning everytime I cleaned. After buying the ruger, I never shot the browning anymore.

It sat long enough unfired, I decided to sell it to a calgunner in 2004?2005?

I still have the mkII 22/45. I wont sell it.

Just my own experience owning the 2 of them.
