    Having A Little Reassembly Issue w/a 10/22

    Hi Folks,

I'm having a small issue reassembling my sons 10/22, the safety button is free floating and won't engage the detent. I moved the safety to a center position so I could get it back in the stock and now the safety just flops around and won't engage the detent and work as it should. It has the plastic trigger housing if that makes a difference.

Do I need to disassemble the trigger group or is there a simple fix?

    TIA for your help,

    MM

Try rotating the safety while sliding it back and forth. I've noticed this phenomenon on my 10/22's too.

      ^This is the fix.
What happens is when you put the safety in the middle position to take the action out of the stock, the safety can spin a little if it rubs on the stock and end up out of position with the detent.

        [EDIT] ^ What they said

If I remember correctly, to remove the 10/22 safety you have to rotate it with your fingers so the detent no longer catches and then slide it out. (Normally this would be after you stripped your trigger group). I'm thinking that in your disassembly/assembly you somehow rotated the safety enough so that the detent is no longer catching. As long as you don't slide the safety out and release the detent, you should be able to rotate it back into place without disassembling the rifle. Position the safety in the center of the housing again and rotate until you feel a bit of a catch, test. Rinse and repeat, until you get it back into the correct position.

Like they said, carefully rotate it until the detent notches re-engage the spring loaded plunger, simple.
