Advantage Arms kit, use with non-recommended ammo.

Since it's been somewhat hard to get some of the ammo specified by AA, I was wondering if there were people that have shot these kits with Fed Champion, Thungerbolts, Aguila, you name it, etc,.

I'm almost certain that it's no big deal but since they went thru the trouble to include that little piece of paper with their kits, it has me wondering what kind of problems one might run into when not heeding their warnings.

    Mainly FTF/FTE

I think ejection will be your biggest problem

Also, sometimes the rounds get stuck in the mouth of the barrel. I use my glock tool to carefully pry it out

I haven't had an issue getting enough CCI Minimags 40gr for my AA kit. The bottom line is its the ONLY ammo I have found to be trouble free in mine.

AA says explicitly NOT to use Thunderbolts, skip those and other cheap bulk pack. I've tried Winchester 555 in mine, FTE or FTE every 3 rounds.

If you have some Aguila super extra 40gr CPRN, that may work as they are similar to Minimags.

CCI mini mags work great out of my AA G22 kit. Wolf MT does well too with just the occasional fte.

Good to know that the Aguila SE is similar to minimags, I'll keep an eye out for those as well now. Thanks!

            Anyone try Fed champs?

              from the website-

"Federal Ammunition Will Not Work in Our Conversion Kits.

Symptoms: Failure to Feed, Stovepipes, Mis-fires and Light Strikes
              "

reading the recommended ammunition list on the website killed my buzz for one these kits.

I use my AA conversion on a Kimber 9mm Stainless Target II and the only problem ammo I've had is: Aquila Super Extra 40gr LRN. Several failures to extract.

But it works with all these flavors of:
CCI (MiniMags, AR Tactical, Std Velocity, Subsonic, Blazers, Velocitors, Stingers...)
                Federal (Target, Champion, BlueBox525)
                Winchester (SuperX, 333, 555, M22, Subsonic)

It seems like Aquila Super Extra is a lighter load than MiniMags, Aquila Interceptors feel more on-par with MiniMags.

The little paper in my AA case actually recommends Remington Golden Bullets (YUK!)

My AA kit also functions reasonably well with Remington Golden bullets, probably a few FTE and FTF in every 100 rounds. Annoying but it gives you malfunction drill practice.

Federal champion is a no go.

Incorrect, Aguila Interceptors are hyper velocity ammo, while Minimags are high velocity ammo.

I tried the ones that were specifically noted as "will not work" and sure enough, FTfeed, FTfire, FTE, etc.

Use Mini Mags and Rem GB.

I've had the AA conversion kit for my Glock 23 for several years now and for those of you who are having FTE/FTF problems there is a simple mod to the magazine that fixes these problems. See post #49 in the following link: http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/show...1009833&page=2

The mag mod and polishing the feed ramp has made my AA kit more reliable and aside from the recommended ammo it now shoots Aguila, Winchester, Fiocchi, etc., really well -- except for the bulk ammo stuff. Not 100%, mind you, because even with Rem Golden Bullets and CCI MiniMags I occasionally still have FTE or FTF issues -- but definitely more reliably than before any of the mods. Hope this helps -- good luck!

                          Aquila Super Extra: 1085fps
                          CCI MiniMags: 1235fps
                          Aquila Interceptor: 1470fps

If you can't find RGBs that they recommend, CCI Minimags work well too (is there anything they don't work in?). Everything else I had occasional issues with. Keep your kit clean to minimize those issues.
