DPMS AP4 22lr upper plinking report
Tags: None -
Yup, after I purchased my AP4 upper I liked it so much I eventually bought their BA22 bull barrel upper too.A good rifle build isn't cheap, but a bad one can be expensive!
My house; like the White House, is NOT a gun free zone! -
We are more into the CMMG and Taccom stuff as gar as Dedicated .22 uppers but have read that the DPMS ones are not too bad.
Heres one of our CMMGs with a Taccom ULW Barrel.
Weighs right at 5 pounds and is no Plastic firearm like a SW MP- 15-22. It is a "real" AR15 that happens to shoot .22 rimfire ammo at the moment.
I do love the SW MP 15-22 mags though. They work great in our dedicated uppers using the redi mag adapter. The adapter gives 100% reliable last shot hold open and the SW mags are a dream to load..
Shown with a ammo wasting 50 round drum

I agree with ar22. Get the better mag adapter and go with s&w mags. This will prbably help u save money on mags if. Already got the m&15-22Comment

Best place is Tim at Taccom Industries. Great guy and you will get it at a fair price and have it very quickly..That is his Barrel on the CMMG upper I have in the pic..
And sorry it is actually a Better Mag Adapter..
Tim can also help out with any advice if it will work for you..I myself am not 100% sure it will work on a DPMS but he will know..If it will you will be in Magazine Heaven

They are a breeze to load. They have a assist button for loading. Much, much easier on the fingers. Black Dogs are nice mags too. But harder to load and as you already know no hold open with Blackdog.
Maybe you cannot have the 25 rounders in CA but I no longer live there so I can. With ten rounders it would not be as much of a issue. But still easier nonetheless..
The SW ones are just absolutely the best AR22 mags out there in my opinion. Bar none.Comment

The BMA II will not work with Chiappa, DPMS and Tactical Solutions.
this is from the web site , guess I'll use the good ol' black dog magsSemper Fi.Comment

Congrats. Researched the DPMS .22 lr upper but ended up buying a CMMG instead.
Being a AR snob I couldn't bring myself to buy anything made by DPMS. Apparently they do make nice .22 uppers though.Comment

1:16 twist , this is a nice unit...tried a CMMG and a few drop in units , so far this DPMS has been great...a short brake in , and it ran very well with 4 diff. types of ammo ..
looking to put a dot sight on it now , maybe a TRS25 on a med mount , hard choice...the upper shot very well with just the iron sights , and there is something to be said for a KISS carbine , even if its only a 22lr.
will let all know how well it works over time , maybe a 3-4K round count report ?

Had a trs25 for about a year on the AR22 shown above. Really liked it. Great battery life. Never did have to change the battery. Always held zero. I know the recoil of the mighty .22 is light but even being banged around it held zero though. Problem with the TRS25 is you need a riser. Mine did not come with one but some are packaged with the riser now.
But just about two week ago I swapped it out for the Bushnel Strikefire that is on it now. Its more like a HOL0 sight. I like it so far. It will require a riser to though. It is lighter than the TRS25 too.
Heres a pic of the Strikefire. I am kinda on the fence about the Strikfire having no power button. You have to put the cover on to shut it down as it is a photocell. I can see good and bad points about that system though. It is dusty in the pics but is well made and sturdy. Made out of Aluminum..
One thing about the DPMS. It may be hard to get parts and service if something does go awry..
Both our CMMGs run flawlessly. We have the Stainless Bolts in them both.
