GSG 922 un-boxing

I wasn't aware that these even existed. Did no research. Saw it at the shop, fondled it for less than 2 minutes. Then paid for it. I own the GSG 1911 and am fairly happy with it. So, figured the compact can't be too far off the mark. But this was, pretty much, an impulse buy

Things I noticed and first impressions after unboxing, field stripping, and cleaning:

• Doesn't use a 1911 barrel bushing
• Uses a dual spring steel guide rod system
• Has a screw down front site
• Came with adjustable rear sight
• Has a removable picatinny rail.
• Slide still feels cheap. Will probably show wear after 100 rounds just like the 1911 did
• although a little different from the 1911, sights are still pretty crappy
• Rear take-down pin fits much tighter than the 1911. Not sure if that is because its brand new. My 1911 rear pin falls clear without any help. I believe it did that ever since it was unboxed.
• The front take down pin threads into the frame and then into the barrel. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. All in all, the barrel feels much tighter while at battery. Also might be because brand new. The 1911 has a lot of barrel movement.

Haven't fired it yet. Will try to head to the range this weekend.

I just picked my 922 up a week ago. I haven't taken it to the range yet. I got some CCI 36g HPs. Hope it does well with the CCIs.

That adjustable rear sight sounds like a huge improvement over the big brother model. I couldn't get the sight picture to match that of my 'real' 1911's and had to put on an adjustable rear sight onto my GSG which was a bit of work.

I still question why the gun has a rail. Maybe to mount a laser to compensate for the sights?

Range Report: Ran 50 rounds x 3 different kinds bulk ammo. No hiccups, not even your typical bulk ammo quirks. Granted 150 rounds isn't much of a work-out, but I'm still breaking it in.

Added a Kensight adjustable. Will see what kind of groups I can get during the next outing...

Update on mine: Developed an issue after about 300 rounds total thgough the gun...The roll pin that holds the firing pin in place starts to drift after about 20 rounds now. Had to tap it back into place a few times during the last range trip. Then put it away for safety reasons.

Not sure (probably is) if this issue is self inflicted due to the Kensight that I installed. Will see how a little bit of locktite works out.
