    Tubefed or Detachable magazines?

Which one do you guys prefer on your rimfire rifles? What are the advantages on one over the other?

I love my Marlin 60, but two dissadvantages if you can call them that are that

    1) when you are pushing the rod down the tube the spring tensioned rod is pointing down range and if you slip... well your rod ends up halfway down the range (Hasn't happened yet, but have thought about the eventuality of it happening)

    2) kind of rough to have spare mags ready to go in a tube... can be done, but mags are preferred.

I have both.. I have tube feeds and High Cap 50 round .22 Drums and everything in between...

I like em both. I see no disadvantage in either really. They are both just what they are..Tube fed and detachable mags, made for different Firearms of different designs..

      Love the 60s too..

It depends on the rifle. I like how the 10/22 20rd mag is flush with the stock. It's easier to have several mags filled with ammo and put them downrange in a hurry. if you're out shooting and that spring tensioned rod goes flying you have to wait for a cease fire or go hunting for it. Easier to just grab another mag should you drop one of those.

However between the Marlin 795 and 60 I prefer the latter as I don't like how the mag sticks out from the bottom of the rifle. It tends to get snagged on things while hunting too.

I prefer detachable magazines. They're just easier to work with. I'd rather reload the magazine or have another mag ready to go rather than having to pull out the whole awkward tube every time.

Pros for fixed .22 caliber tubular magazine:
            1. Exempt from CA's large capacity magazine laws. Therefore, ammo capacity is only limited by physical constraints and can be legally increased to meet those physical limits.
            2. Don't have to spend more money on extra magazines.

I had a Marlin 60- we would squirrel hunt, then drive down a road to another location. I did not like having to load/unload the tube. My preference is 10/22 with a mag to simply take in or out. Marlin was a sweet little gun though.

When removing the tube rod from the tubefed ones does your hand go near the muzzle?

Depends what you have. On my Marlin 60 & 2 of my bolt actions tube is under barrel. On my Remington Nylon66 tube is in butt of stock.

Most of my firearms are magazine fed.

I prefer my .22 with a detachable magazines to help me practice mag changes.

                        Prefer detachable mags.Easier to replace/repair.

Consider a speed loader with tube feed a must.

?? When? Where? Never heard of that happening with a rim fire ever.

Seems like most are leaning towards detachable mags. Planning on getting a Marlin XT-22, mostly for some fun plinking so I will probably end up getting one with a detachable magazine.

One more vote for detachable magazines.

And a vote for Marlin XT-22. One fine bolt action .22LR rifle.

                              Enjoy!
