    Very Cool .22

I've been thinning the herd a little and was looking for another gun to sell when I found this little .22 sitting in my safe. It's a French made Armes Unique Model "L" .22LR. I knew nothing about it. Just been sitting in the safe. A fellow LEO gave it to me after he retired. It was his backup. I looked online to try and get a value and found out it was from the 60's and you could remove the barrel and attach the pistol to a little carbine. I attached the pictures. The one pictured is about 150 off my serial number. I would love to get the rifle portion. I've looked online and can't seem to locate one. If anyone runs across one, please let me know. It looks like a fun little .22. Anyone here have any experience with one?

Cool. The only problem is once you convert it to a rifle, it's always a rifle under US law. Yes, there are some exceptions but, I bet there's not one for this model. So, if you convert it back to a pistol, legally it will be a SBR.

Last year a guy on Calguns listed a Unique Model 52 pistol in .22 for sale. It looked similar to your Unique Model L, but with a heel latch instead of a release button for the magazine. The grips are different also, but the size and lines of the two guns are much the same.

Here's the link with pics and a short history of the Model 52:

What does California have to do with anything? This has been a FEDERAL LAW for 80 years. It has NOTHING to do with Ca law or Ca politics.

You remove the barrel from the pistol and you have a lower receiver. Then attach to the upper. You just can't have it attached and shorten the barrel and the overall length has to be more than 26" and barrel not less than 16". Once you take it off and put the original barrel in, it's just a compact .22. The problem is now it would have to have a non-removable magazine or idiotic bullet button.

No it would not. It would be a rimfire rifle and exempt from the CA Aw laws. Once you convert it to a rifle, you can not convert it back to a handgun EVER under Federal law unless it's in the NFA registry as a SBR.

Pretty sure that last year the Feds stated you could go pistol -----> rifle -----> pistol and be ok as long as the initial state was pistol. This came up in regards to AR pistols and AR rifles. Have to try to dug up the documentation however.

Edit: looks like it was a few years ago - see this thread, specifically post 11: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...67#post7754067

Thanks for finding this. Seems like there still the issue with CA and SBRs.

Yeah in CA it's still a no go unfortunately. Bummer.

I have nothing to add to this thread other than "Cool gun" and "I hate you" because you find cool guns in your safe while looking for other guns.
