Just fine in both, assuming you're talking high velocity in the ballpark of 1200-1260 fps, and not hyper velocity, which can run 1600 or more. The majority of .22 lr is high velocity, including most cheap bulk ammo. Best to stay away from Stingers, Velocitors, etc, in the Ruger, anyway.

My 8 year old son is enjoying the little Ithaca mod.49 very much. It has a nicely carved stock, is very light and I am very surprised how smooth the trigger is. We live on 7 acres and have a nice hill for a back stop. The only pain is the getting ammo. 50 rounds at a time is nothing, even for a for a young shooter. I have made 6 trips to Walmart over the hill to pick up a couple of value packs. No success.

I haven't seen .22 ammo in stock at any store in a very long time. You need to watch the Ammo Finds section(on this site) and jump on anything that comes up. I have picked up a few thousand rounds just recently thanks to this group.
