what is the minimum rifle length for a 22lr rifle with a collapsible stock ?

a coworker tried to do a transfer at a local store in Antioch,CA on a 22lr with a collapsible stock & when the storeperson measured said rifle with stock collapsed it came out to 27" &
he was immediately told to leave the store.

Under Federal and CA laws, the minimum length limits are:
barrel length = 16"
overall length = 26"

For CA, overall length is measured with the firearm in the shortest possible firing position (stock folded/collapsed).

If it has an overall length shorter than 26", it is considered a SBR under CA laws.


Semi-auto centerfire rifles have a minimum overall length of 30".
Shorter than 30" it is considered an assault weapon under CA laws.

The store clerk was not thinking...it's a rim fire, not a center fire, so 27" long is good to go.
