    Looking for suggestions

Up to this point I have completely avoided buying a .22 LR firearm. But, I figure it has been enough and ammo is popping up from time to time. So, a .22 semi-automatic rifle is on my 2014 must-have list! Up to this point I have only really looked at the Ruger 10/22 but I'm open to any suggestions that those more experienced in the world of little bullets might have for me!

Seriously I know next to nothing about .22s. Any and all help is deeply appreciated.
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

    I just bought my first 22lr firearm - a Walther MP5:

I will be picking it up this week. I actually bought .22lr ammo for the past couple of months prior to buying the firearm. Oddly enough I decided to get it because as I was eying mods for the Ruger 10/22, I saw that a bunch of folks ended swapping stocks, getting a kit, etc like the archangel ones. The Walther (imported by Umarex) gets a lot of good reviews and apparently isn't picky about ammo, which is a key item for me. And I've always wanted to do the HK slap.

Seems a fair point. I hear .22 can vary quite a bit. Would you mind terribly sending me a PM toughing down on your experience with it when you pick it up? I'd love to hear a review from someone else new to .22s.

If a semi-auto is a must have, Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 60. I have both.

However, if you're only going to buy ONE .22, you may rethink it and consider a bolt or pump gun. .22LR ammo quality of late isn't as good as it has been in the past. With a bolt or pump, you've got fewer concerns with ammo having enough ooomph to cycle the action of a semi-auto.

I prefer my bolt guns for precision shooting.

          Just my opinion.

Thanks for the heads up on the Marlin 60s. I just want a semi auto because I have bolt/lever/pump guns already. All in beefier calibers and I want a gun to enjoy rather than fret over precision accuracy (not saying I don't want an accurate rifle, mind you). I don't mind it being picky if the price is right, it's not something I am likely to be depending on in a poor situation.

I'll put my 2 cents in here. I'm a big rimfire fan. Previous poster mentioned ammo quality which is true in my experience. The 10/22 is a great option, I had my share and there a blast. They can also be a money pit and addicting as far as modifications go. I've also had other semi auto rimfires but IMHO the 10/22 is the best and most personalize able semi auto. (I feel like I almost just made up a word. LOL.)

I'll preface this paragraph with this, I'm very bias to my recommendation of this manufactures bolt guns. If you in the market for a bolt rimfire I recommend CZ rifles, the 452 model in particular. The newest model is the 455 but I'd snap up a 452 even used if I had to. I have a number of them in 22lr and 17hmr (looking for a 22mag FS.) the 452 22lr trainer was on davidsons for right at $400 a week or so ago at a local vendor (Alquist arms in Turlock.) one of my favorite 22lr is my ultra lux (28.5" barrel, yes it looks odd but is a tack driver.) I shoot 16oz cans easily with the stock open sights a 130yds with subsonic ammo. It's also quiter than my gammo break barrel pellet gun. No bs, verified by range finder. Check them out at czusa.com Another source for info is rimfire central.com They have a huge cz following second only to the 10/22.

So just a recap, check out cz bolt guns, lol. Good luck and let us know what you decide. Hope this helps.
