Cleaning 22 for the first time - what is this?

I am cleaning my wife's Sig 1911-22 for the first time - what is this?

It came out while using a .22 bore snake. It is hard to pull thru on the 22lr rifles, and pretty much the same on the Sig. During the third pass thru this strip of metal came out. I am cringing thinking it is part of the barrel.

What kind of ammo were you using and how many rounds since you cleaned it?

Big piece of leading.Definitely not part of the barrel.Should be easy to bend, lead is fairly soft.Be sure to wash your hands with cold water after handling it.

Very soft, has broken in two just flipping it over. Uhm, really not sure on the rds. 500-1000? So just keep running the 22 boresnake thru it and no harm?

Yes, I always wash when I get up from cleaning, even if just for a short break.

All sorts of Remington (Thunderbolt and Golden Bullet) and CCI ammo.

Seems like an unusual amount of leading. I'd scope the bore to make sure it's clean of burrs, imperfections and such which could lead to a chunk of lead like that.

Many, many reports of Thunderbolts causing fast leading in some barrels. Avoid that ammo like the plague, it's crap.

I know those aren't up to normal Sig standards, but seems like your barrel or chamber isn't straight! That's a lot of leading for 1k or fewer rounds.

a bore scope would be great but you may be able to see the burr or obstruction grabbing that much*lead. if the barrel looks good I would take it to the range & fire some rounds- unload it - look down the barrel and keep repeating the process and until you can see what is causing the problem.

I used any and all cheap ammo in my Ruger 10/22 which has a longer barrel & theoretically could grab more lead and I never had anything like that come out.

You need to clean more often.

I had excessive lead build up recently too after firing 150 rounds of thunderbolt, which is discouraging since I still have 1000 rounds of it. It was hard for me to pass a bore snake too, when I did there were small chunks of lead falling out too. But for me I still see some imperfections in the barrel, maybe I should get mine scoped.
