Ruger Mark III - Exemption, roster, etc.

    Help Cal-gunners

I know there are a lot of Ruger Mark owners here. The Mark line of pistols is a main stay for lots of skill levels and I think that goes without saying.

What I am wondering is, does anyone have any ideas about future purchases of these beautiful pistols? There seem to be a lot going off roster and I know that buying used is an option but those are few and far between.

I want one on the higher end like the competition or hunter series that I can keep for a long time and give to my son when he gets ready. Do I have any options?

    Thanks in advance

I'm not sure what options you're looking for. As Ruger has stated they will not renew pistols this year that will expire (due to the micros stamping requirement). Either buy one now while it is still on the roster or don't. Or buy one used via a PPT. No matter how you've obtained the pistol, you'll be able to (legally) pass it along to your son.

Guess I just missed the boat. Maybe I will look at a different offering.

the hunter and competition both have a barrel length of 6.88" and overall length 11.12". They both are prime candidates for a simple SSE, just need to find a shop to do it.

I'm don't believe the Mk series can be made SSE. You'll need to call some shops about that one.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

All that needs to be done is fix a sled, which is pretty easy. make a block of wood that fits the mag well, and run a longer grip screw through the grips into the block of wood so it can't be removed without a tool.

                    And why not?
Many people have already SSE'd models such as the LITE.

What will hopefully happen is the stupid roster will be obliterated soon, and all Ruger MKIII models will once again be available. Fingers crossed.

In the meantime I scored a MKIII standard at my LGS for $275. They did not want to get stuck with it and sold it under their "Off Roster Discount".

Hopefully they will be available again, but I think prices will out of this world.

Some nice FFL's are happy to help out on these types of challenges.

Maybe since ruger is swearing off California, they will revert back to the MKII, or else eliminate the worthless MKIII "upgrades" that ruin the trigger and magazine function.
