    Ruger American .22LR Rimfire

Just jailed one today at Big 5. It's currently on sale for $299 + Tax + DROS.

I currently have a 10/22 that I run with iron sites. Wanted another .22lr plinker to put a scope on. I have a Nikon Prostaff 3-9 x 40 lying around so it should pair up nicely.

I LOVE the fact that I can use my 10/22 mags with this rifle as well as the interchangable buttstock modules.

I ALMOST bought the 10/22 take-down that was just behind it on the rack but I was able to hold myself in check....hehehe.

I hear they are a little rough out the gate, but smooths up over time. I'll definitely give it a once over and maybe bring out the dremel if needed to "fine tune" any rough areas.

Any tips or suggestions from you guys that already own one?

    Thanks!

The bolt on my RAR was a little stiff when new. The machining on the bolt is actually quite good. The maching the the reciever, not so much. The fix is very easy. Shoot the hell out of it. I did coat the bolt with some spray on dry lube. Now, ~1000 rds later, the bolt is runs very smooth. You will enjoy this gun and the Nikon Prostaff is an excellent choice. I have the same setup.

Looking forward getting out to the range with it.

Curious as to how you mounted your Prostaff?

I had a Nikon scope ready to mount as soon as I took my American home. Found out it didn't come with mounts. Ordered some and had to wait a week or so before mounting the Nikon.

In case you didn't know, you can order them here...

Thanks for the link. I went digging into my spare parts bin and found one of these brand new and still in the packaging.

I wonder if it will work on the RAR?

I love mine. I've had it for a few months now and shot at least a few hundred rounds thru it. It definitely gets better with time. I originally used the #12 mounts and low rings but had to remove the front sight so I picked up some #16 so I could re-install the sight. Enjoy the rifle!

I'm planning on getting one of the compact stock modules so that my wife and daughter can enjoy the gun as well.

They are much smaller in stature than I am so would I be better off getting the standard compact stock module or would they have an easier time with the high comb compact stock module?

I have the standard version Am rimfire rifle and bought the compact low comb. Better reach for my kids and works well with the iron sights. I didn't get the compact high comb because I thought it is used for scopes.

Anyone know how these compare to the Marlin XT22? I have the marlin and absolutely love it. Almost went with the rar.

If you're going to be using the iron sights, get the low module. The high comb is too high to use with the iron sights.

I put another 100 rounds thru my rifle on Sunday and I am liking it more and more. My #12 bases showed up today so now I can figure out what rings I need to mount my Nikon scope.

I wanted to get a stainless XT22 tube fed except I couldn't find one locally. When the RAR was announced, it pretty much changed my mind because I could use all the 10/22 magazines I already owned.

I just ordered the Weaver #12 bases as well. Going to mount a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40. Hmmm....looks like I'll need to get rings as well as I don't want to use the Burris P.E.P.R. mount that is currently mounted in.
