S&W 22A---Any Info On These

I've seen several threads on the M&P 22 but not anything on these 2 S&W 22A models---Anybody own one of these?

Works fine as a basic training gun but I wouldn't buy one again for anything else like target shooting or just fun plinking. Tool less disassembly, but still you could shoot your recoil spring into outer space (thanks S&W for the free replacement!) and lost several grip screws. Felt cheap. Wanted to replace the handgrips but there are few. FTF Remington Golden Bullets. Paid $229 @ Turners on sale about 2 years ago.

Pleased with mine. It's a relatively cheap gun that shoots well. Take down is kind of on the more challenging side.

Good first .22 gun. Mine feeds almost any ammo well. Almost because I haven't tried all brands.

I have the 5.5" bbl. Nice long sight picture for accuracy. Shooting the 7" bbl must almost be like shooting a rifle!

These guns are much more like the vaunted S&W Model 41 then the M&P22. The 22a's don't have the same tacti-cool appearance factor as the M&P, and therefore are (foolishly) overlooked.

I have one. Never have had a problem with it. Very accurate and runs reliably.

Same here, owned for a 7" model for 4 years or so and never an issue and shoots any ammo that I chose to load. Mounted a Bushnell TRS-25 and accuracy increased. Couldn't be happier with this pistola.

The 22A is my wife's first gun. Just got it back from the gunsmith today.

Two points:
1. do NOT dry fire. We didn't dry fire a lot but still caused issues, needed the chamber touched up and new firing pin.
2. do NOT over lube. Like Glock best runs almost dry. I was lubing it like a Colt Gold Cup.

Otherwise, great gun, easy to use and it would eat any ammo.

Love mine, 7" barrel. I find it to be very accurate and has shot federal, Remington golden bullets and thunderbolts, as well as armscor without issue. Fine, reasonably priced purchase for me.

I, too, have one with a 7" barrel and a Bushnell scope. I've never had a problem with it -- runs on any ammo I've tried. S&W also comp'd me a few buffers when I asked. All in all, it's been quite acceptable.

Your comment is not the first time I've heard of S&W comping the buffers.

When I acquired mine, there was a small envelope inside the box that had three extras inside. Hope that's the case for others. My purchase was between 6-9 months ago if I remember correctly.

I have owned mine since 2002. I got the one with a nice rosewood grips which ended up cracking in a couple of spots. I ended up using some glue to control the cracks and refinished it.

It has been a great pistol eating any higher velocity ammo I feed it. It is very accurate and have plinked clays at 100 yards. I had one firing pin break after 9-10 years and countless bricks through it. It does get dirty but is probably one of the easiest rim fire pistols to strip down and clean.

I had one, accurate and shoots any kind of ammo. However, the trigger frame eventually cracked in half and sold off the bull barrel, grips and mag.
Now I realize I could have sent it in to S&W and been kicking myself ever since.
If I can find the parts less than a new gun, I might get it fixed.

The only issue I had was the magazine floor plates may back out a little over time. When you slap in the mag in, it will get caught on the lip of the mag well, which will cause the plastic floor plate to crack open. Contact S&W and they will ship you spares. It's a nice little training pistol.

I love mine eats any ammo I have put through it. Bought it used so don't know the total round count but it is pretty reliable on a few ftf with winchester ammo.I have about 10k rounds and no cracks in the frame and I am not worried about it cracking anytime soon.
