    bench rest suggestions.

I'm looking at bench rests for my savage 93. I've seen the cast iron ones, plastic, tubing, ect. Whats a good solid rest that's easy to carry and doesn't need another trip to the car to carry it in...?

I made a one piece wood rest in my shop It served me well for years. The cast iron model I have now is a big step up.

I had a Caldwell BR 1000 "The Rock" that is 15-20 pounds. It is very solid and a very good rest for the money. I have recently replaced it with a Cowen rest built by Joe Cowan in a trade school in Pennsylvania. It is a very good rest at a reasonable price, weighs approximately 15 pounds, but you have to get on a list to get one as they are made in batches, by the students and only sent out a couple times a year.

I made one out of wood with a shelf to put range supplied sandbags in it for weight.
This keeps the "haul to the range wt low" It works well, but I do not know how it compares to commecial made cast iron one. I assume the cast iron one's would work better.
I had the wood, so cost was only my time.

Thanks for the input. just ordered a Caldwell, cast base, steel screw, built in level. Weighs in at under 6lbs and comes with a blow molded case. Trying to keep my range gear weight below 1000lbs......lol
