Ruger American rimfire rifle

I recently learned that Ruger is introducing their American rimfire rifles in 17 hmr, and I am interested in getting one.

The .22 lr and .22 mag models have been out for some time now and I was wondering what your guys opinions are about these series of rifles.

Quality? Accuracy?

Also pics and targets would be cool too.

It's a great rifle. I have it in 22lr and I am very satisfied with it. The triggers awesome and pretty damn accurate.

I purchased the 22LR one. For the price, it has alot of value. Maybe the only complaint I have is the finish and the over use of "plastics". However, I still like the fit and finish of the CZ. But I don't feel guilty putting rounds through the Ruger versus I feel guilty using the CZ.

Super accurate rifle. Stock feels nice and the trigger is a jewel.

Check out the group size, the rifle never shot MOA with the smallest group being .56" @ 50yds. Add a little money and buy a CZ, MOA out of the box. I don't keep rifles that won't shoot MOA @ 50yds but then that's just my criteria and not everyone requires that precision from their rifles. I suspect the Ruger is a fine hunting/plinking rifle.

I have the standard model in 22lr. I've had to buy the shorter stock inserts for it to get good eye relief for a scope. If I had to do it all over again I would have probably bought the compact model since I'm not really sure if the extra barrel length makes a significant difference in accuracy. I got it mainly so that my son doesn't burn ammo super fast while not lose interest by having to load every single shot plus I don't have to buy any new mags for it. Bolt is a little rough in the beginning but it gets smoother after you shoot it awhile.

I have the standard model in 22 LR. I wanted the compact for my kids but my LGS couldn't get it before the new year.

I ended up buying the compact comb/stock which gives a better (slightly shorter) reach from stock to trigger, about .75".

I like the Williams fiber optic front sight, but be careful not to bump it. Mine popped out when I was putting it back in the safe and had to reinstall it.

Bolt was stiff in the beginning but has smoothed out.

The new March 2014 issue of Guns Magazine has a nice write up on these. If I couldn't afford a CZ, I would buy one of these, they seem to be really great shooters and a decent deal.

Thanks for the input, sounds like these rifles are good enough for my needs. I'll be sure to wait a little once to 17 hmr version comes out for some good reviews. As long as it will shoot 1 inch groups at 100 yards and the trigger doesn't suck I'll be happy.

Just got back from the range today with RAR. Hate to admit it, but since getting the RAR my 10/22 has been a safe queen. I really enjoy shooting this rifle.
Below is the best group of the day at 100yds. (off the bench, no wind, 70 freaking degrees in January!)

I have the Ruger American in .308
Overall I'm pleased. The machining isn't perfect, there are a few nicks and scratches on the reciever and barrel. But it's reliable, accurate and well priced.
