Which .22 should I buy? Help please!

I want to get my girlfriend a 22 to try and interest her in shooting. she has shot before but isn't hooked, "yet!"

Both the Savage Arms 64 tactical .22LR & the Marlin 795 .22 are both on sale for the same price: $160 @ Big 5.

which rifle do you think is the better choice and why?

I am a fan of 10-22. But, every time I go out shooting with one of my buddies, I put my 10-22 down and shoot his Rossi pump 22. It is ton of fun to shoot. I think it is Winchester knockoff, has exposed hammer.

Fwiw, I have the 795 and recommend it. One question to ask is, which one can you easily get extra mags for? I'm sure the savage is a good option... Heck, just get both of 'em

Buy a CZ 452 Trainer (Turners has them), they shoot one hole groups with junk Wallyworld ammo at --->100yards in the wind. Every time you shoot it you will have a giant smile on your face. Its that good!

100 yards? Do you have your scope sighted for 100 yards? I have mine sighted at 50 yards and at 100 yards it drops very low.

Buy a CZ 452 Trainer (Turners has them), they shoot one hole groups with junk Wallyworld ammo at --->100yards in the wind. Every time you shoot it you will have a giant smile on your face. Its that good!

I am not doubting you may have a accurate rifle there. I know nothing about them, but I do doubt these were done in Gusty wind conditions and cheap bulk ammo.

Sorry I do not care how good a .22 rifles accuracy is. You cannot get those groups with "gusty" winds at 100 yards..Just seems theoretically impossible to me... No matter how accurate the rifle is. It cannot stop wind from moving the small bullet. Nor do I believe cheap ammo will shoot that consistent at 100 yards..Now I may come closer to believing it more if you had said consistent cross wind rather than "gusty"

Maybe I am wrong. But I doubt the story completely

I would say a 10/22, it's slightly more expensive but it'll be easier to find pink accessories for the rifle if she wants. You are not looking for the best rifle; she doesn't know and doesn't care.

The CZ is fantastic, as the above poster said. Unfortunately it also costs about two and half times as much as either the Savage or Marlin.

Between the two, I'd probably give a slight edge to the Marlin. The micro-grooved barrel has a reputation for being very accurate, and in my opinion the fit and finish of the Marlin is a little better. Also, the Marlin might be a little smaller which could work well with a female shooter.

In terms of overall quality and functioning, however, I think they are probably very similar.

I would also check out the Marlin 60, which is essentially a tube fed 795. It can be purchased with a nice wood stock (unlike the 795), and runs $159-169.

I believe the story but I also believe either of the rifles the op is asking about may be capable of doing that if you find the cheap ammo it likes.
