    .22 pistol upper??

    Hey guys question for you

I'm looking to do a .22LR AR Pistol out of an 80% poly lower I milled out last week.

I'm looking at doing something like this :

From what I can tell (correct me if I'm wrong) but the mp15 ar22 upper only works with the MP lower (dimensions or something are different). I was looking for something like that, however that is a dedicated .22 upper (no CMMG conversion) without breaking the bank Ive found a couple uppers that are in the 500+ range but for that price i might as well buy a 10/22 :P I'm just looking for a range toy. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. or if you know anybody with a super short .22 AR pistol upper for sale point em my direction!

Your best option is to build your own AR 22 upper. Buy a CMMG barrel/bolt combo from Midway.

Mail the barrel to AR15Barrels, gunsmith on this forum, and have him cut the barrel down to the length of your choice, re crown, and re thread.

Assemble the upper yourself with your choice of upper and rail, Troy 7.5 inch Alpha is a nice option.

        how does it shoot?

I was wanting to do something like this:

but it appears that that is a custom cut down barrel? I can't seem to find a stock shorty barrel like that.

I'm never going to give someone a hard time for their firearm choices.
That said, with the exception of having a non registered pistol or just plain having fun, what would be the purpose of such a pistol?
Wouldn't seem very accurate or easy to shoot well.

They had an extractor issue with an employee who was making it out of spec so I had a feed problem. They corrected the info and sent me new bolts correcting the issue and even sent me a free magazine for my issue.

just plain having fun. and realize that he hasn't put sights on that yet. it should shoot similarly to many other .22lr pistols.

Its both...having a range/woods blaster that is cheap is what I'm going for. It's going to be as accurate as most .22lr semi auto pistols i'd think. The other part is that i dont fully trust polymer lowers yet, so theres 0 chance of me snapping off a buffer tube either by dropping it or from 5.56 rounds driving the bolt back. I'm planning to put the plug in the back which should negate all of those issues. It's purely a range toy. There's no practical purpose for one other than "look at this neat thing i made!!! its fun and cheap to shoot!!!"

I'm not an operator, LEO or CIA spy. Just a hobbyist. I shoot for fun and have plenty of practical applications.

Sometimes I just wanna have fun at the range

Yup, spoke with the owner and he had me do some test and measuring. He actually wasn't aware of the issue as it was only in a small amount of the bolts.

Good customer service and they made themselves available evenings when I was home to troubleshoot.

I suppose i could always get one of those and cut down the barrel to 6" and recrown and toss on a free float. thoughts? would that be the cheapest and most efficient way?

The upper I posted was $425, why spend $300 and then do more work?

My barrel is 4", I wanted it as light as possible. It's actually very easy to fire one handed.

Honestly, theres nothing wrong with it execpt im not a fan of carbon tension barrels with the sleeved liner. Sure its light, but i guess id rather have a full metal barrel, plus i'd still have to swap out the handguard, etc for a RIS system so I could run some magpul buis or something.

That's extra, they don't come that way.
