will the 'low profile' sights on S&W 22A base model bug me?

Seem to have decent reviews and not liking Ruger MkIII grip to much, plus SW has built in rail on top.

I notice the low profile model is in stock, but not the one with normal sights.

I don't see any other 'low pro' sights on any other pistols by ANYBODY.

Are they a WHOLE BUNCH better if mounting scope or red dot or something?

One reason I'd want one is for general pistol target practice, so I'd think I'd want something close to what my 'real' pistol has.

I guess I SHOULD buy 5.5" barrel for same sight rad as my Glock35, but the 7" is calling me. Will it have "poor balance" compared to 5.5 and make me sorry?

Any LGS in SF bay area stock both lengths?

I've had the plain jane one for years, it shoots well very reliable, heck I even had a red dot on it and had a ball with it. My wife loves it.

Really what happened? I don't see anything on mine and it's been around for awhile hundreds of rounds down the barrel.

Many thousands for me too over the last 8 years. Many new shooters have started out on that gun. I replace the little spacer very thousand rounds or so, but it's been great.

I wonder if it's a disassembly, reassembly issue with that aluminum tang that sticks up. If so, it's likely a technique issue.

Regarding the original question, mine has the regular sights. Other than having difficulty seeing the black sights against a black target in a poorly lit indoor range, no issues.

On mine the frame broke above the trigger pin. S&W replaced the frame with the same serial number and returned it quickly. This happened at around 80k rounds. They also replaced the barrel that had some issues with breach erosion.

I have the standard sights as mine is older than dirt. Pre-low profile.
It was originally a 4" barrel but the barrel retaining hook eventually broke off.
I replaced the barrel with the 7" found on Gunbroker. Made the old gal even more accurate and fun.
A bit heavy for the wife to shoot a lot without a break, but well worth it.
Remember, it's a target gun so heavy no matter what barrel.
If the 5.5 ever shows up on GB at a decent price, I'd likely buy that just to have it. Barrel swap takes 30 seconds.
Buy the 7, when you pull it out it makes you feel like Dirty Harry!

I have had the 7" model for 4 years with no issues, standard sights but mounted a Bushnell TRS-25 Red Dot sight (3 MOA Dot), far superior to using the iron sights. The front sight blade is rather wide and difficult for me to get a consistent sight picture. Pistol has performed flawlessly for me, shoots any and all ammo I have used, even Aguila Super Sniper 60gr, 750FPS and cyles fine. Maybe 2-3,000 rounds thru this pistol, no failures.
