All done cost me about $450 with optics. I would do it like this again in a heartbeat. Shoots one hole with ANY ammo at 25 yards, and generally about the same at 50.

AR .22 cheesy? Really.
I have two that will shoot sub .5 at 50 yards.
The Tango will shoot under 1" at 100 yards.
And they will run through a 25 round mag as fast as you can pull the trigger reliably.

Better than my custom 10/22.

id say get the ruger, a classic 10/22 should be in everyone's arsenal.

Then get the AR 22 , and go on and on from there

In your price range I'm surprised no one has mentioned CZ again. They can be found for under $400.

If you want a heavy barrel, there's the 455 Varmint. They make aftermarket barrels for these now too.

No offense to anyone who owns an AR platform in .22, but I think they're a bit cheesy. As for the Anschutz, I'm sure they're excellent rifles, but they're out of my price range and there's guns I would rather have for $1000+. From what I've seen, the 10/22 seems like the best bet.

Only "Best Bet" for a 10-22 is they are a cheaper option..I would go with a Marlin 60 or 795 before I went with the 10-22 even. Just as good a rifle or better in my opinion for less money..

I have a 10-22 and when it does go out in public with us, which is pretty rare now that we have discovered the AR 22 Platform. No one comes over and says hey I like that 10-22 , can I see it..Not in the 20 years I have had it anyway. Maybe next week. When they do approach they want to see the AR22s though and if I let them shoot them. All of them say , I have got to get me one of these..

No one has ever even as much as asked about my 10-22..EVER.. Nearly everytime though someone wants to look at the AR22s..I suppose just to see how cheesy they are

Shadows comments are factual..A little cheesy though We do not have the Tango like that lucky Dave. But both our AR22s will hold their own with any Factory 10-22 and even with some High Dollar custom ones..

You are not talking too much $ any how, buy what you think you will like by your research and if you don't like it, sell it and try another one. Sounds like the 10/22 anyhow, not a bad choice...

So I'm in the market for my first .22lr. Im experienced in the shotgun/AR/AK world but I know absolutely nothing about .22's.

The main use for this rifle will be scoped shooting out to 100 yards or less, with the occasional long shot. Targets will primarily consist of small game and paper targets.

I would prefer a semi-auto but if I can get a substantial increase in accuracy, I'll go for a bolt gun. I have had my eye on Ruger's 10/22 target rifles for some time. I really like this rifle http://www.ruger.com/products/1022Target/models.html because of the heavy 20" barrel. Weight is not really an issue but I would like to keep the price around the $500 range. Any suggestions?

You will not find an out of the box semi-auto as accurate as a bolt action unless you go for a Volquartsen which is big $$$ for a .22lr. Most accuracy for the $$$ in a stock .22lr would be a CZ in my opinion. They are generally a sub-MOA shooter @ 25 and 50yds and close to MOA @ 100yds with its favorite ammo (not bulk ammo, at least low end match ammo). Some will disagree with the semis not being as accurate as a bolt gun but you will not see any semis being shot by competitive bench rest shooters.

I'd use the word "waste" rather than "spend". It looks purdy in the picture, but it's going to be some crappy wood laminate--certainly no fine crafted hardwood stock.

But, then again, some people think that IKEA makes high end furniture.

But 10/22s are loads of fun to mod! Think of all the extra fun...3rd party aftermarket support is extensive.

+1 for a CZ455 - love how mine shoots.

Though I did just throw down for a Taccom 22 upper - which shoots CCI Quiets quite well. I have not yet been out with it with full velocity ammo to say how it does with that.

I recently bought a 10/22 and it is quite accurate out to 50 yards. I havnt tried it at 100 yards yet but I assume it would do alright. I currently have I scope I bought for $40 on amazon on it and I see no reason why anyone should spend more on a scope for a 10/22. If ultimate accuracy is what you want then an Anschutz is the way to go. My father own one and it is the best rifle I have ever fired but they are probably out of your price range.

you cant go wrong with a 10/22, they are great guns, accurate enough, and aftermarket parts go on and on.
